Before Otis Marlowe retired on April 1, after more than 30 years as editor
of The Mill Whistle, a number of events were held in his honor.
On Wednesday, March 30, a luncheon was held for Mr. Marlowe at
Meadow Greens Country Club which was attended by more than 80
Fieldcrest employees. A special guest at the luncheon was his wife, Anne, a
retired Fieldcrest employee.
Brief remarks were made by H.H. Newton, vice president-industrial
Relations, who presented Mr. Marlowe with a gift from all those attending.
Jones Norman, area personnel manager of the Karastan and Bedspread
Mills, mayor of Eden, and a long-time personal friend of the Marlowes, also
spoke briefly after which Mr. Marlowe addressed the group.
A reception was held Thursday, March 31, in the conference room at the
General Offices from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. during which a large number of
