JONES NORMAN Norman Wins NCIDA Award Eden’s Mayor Jones Norman, personnel manager at Karastan Rug Mill, recently won the 1977 “Industrial Development Volunteer of the Year” award at the annual N.C. Industrial Development Association (NCIDA) meeting. The newly-established award recognizes Norman for his work and cooperation in helping Miller Brewing Company to settle in Eden.He will compete with 16 other state award winners in October for the Southern award. Eden's Father Of The Year Fieldcrest’s security specialist, George Johnson, was named Eden’s “Father of the Year’’ for 1977. “It was a total surprise,’’ said Johnson, who was nominated by his daughter, Mrs. Sandra Johnson Willard of Summerville, S.C. “His love for mother and us and his firm discipline gave a strong family tie that shall never be broken,’’ the letter read. “He is a special person to others; as well as to his own family.’’ Johnson also Is the father of one son, George Walter Johnson, Jr., who lives with his family in Ruffin. Johnson has worked for Fieldcrest since 1941 as quill collector, shop helper and mechanic at the Blanket Greige Mill. He became a locksmith for the company in 1971 and now as security specialist is responsible for several thousand keys and other security equipment. Bradley Joins Medical Staff Maggie Bradley, R.N. has joined the Fieldcrest Medical Department as the plant nurse at the Columbus Towel Mill; A native of Mobile, Ala., she received her training at St. Francis School of Nursing, Columbus. Prior to joining Fieldcrest, she has been an industrial nurse at Chloride, Inc., a battery manufacturing company in Columbus.
