Columbus Towel Mill, Phenix City Piant
Long Service Employees Pi
Some 200 long service employees of the Columbus Towel Mill and
the Phenix City Plant attended the annual meeting of the 25-Year Club held
on Saturday, October 15, at the Fieldcrest Mills Lake In Columbus.
Eleven new members joined the club this year from the Towel Mill. They
are William D. Avant, David R. Barr, Carl D. Boyd, James M. Carter, Roy
Fuller, Cammie Houston, Charles W. Jones, Mildred C. Langston, Edward
C. Parrish, Frances L. Richardson and Jack Tidewell.
Two new members joined from the Phenix City Plant: Gerald McCall and
Shirley A. Newsome.
The meeting was called to order by R. E. Reece, area personnel man
ager, and the invocation was given by R. W. Harris, piant manager, Phenix
City Plant, who also presented the new members to the group following the
dinner.
Speakers were D. W. Sprouse, division vice president and general man
ager, Columbus Towel Manufacturing; H. W. Auman, plant manager, Colum
bus Towel Mill; and W. S. Ayscue, general manager, Fieldcrest Ireland
Limited, formerly division vice president and general manager, Columbus
Towel Manufacturing.
Sprouse commended the long service employees for their outstanding
performance during the past year and spoke briefly about the enormous
growth and expansion at the Towel Mill in recent years.
Auman called the long service employees “the backbone of this opera
tion,” and praised them for their loyalty, knowledge and experience.
“You have held this operation together, given it continuity and kept idiots
like me from making mistakes,” he told the group.
Ayscue also commended the employees for their fine performance and
welcomed Sprouse to Columbus.
VELMA RACHELS helped to serve this delicious cake for dessert.
