Happenings... ‘Miss Anna’ Celebrates A Happy 105th Birthday Former Reidcrest Lodge Hostess It was a happy day for Miss Anna Stultz (left) when she turned 105 years old. Greetings from the president and governor were read by Sister Mary (right) for Miss Anna and the well- wishers celebrating the occasion. Miss Anna Stultz was 105 years old on October 27, and she’s “smart er than most people will ever think of being,’’ according to Sister Mary, administrator of Maryfield Nursing Home, High Point, N. C. where Miss Anna lives. Presidential and gubernatorial greetings, television cameras and lots of well wishers characterized the former Fieldcrest employee’s birthday celebration. Known affectionately as “Miss Anna’’ to everyone at Maryfield, she is able to be up and around and enjoys the many activities at the nursing home. Born in Martinsville, Va., in 1872, Miss Anna was the first manager and hostess of the Fieldcrest Lodge, Fieldale, Va. then owned by Marshall Field and Company. She was employed by Marshall Field and Company in 1918 and remained with them for almost 20 years. She has seven brothers and sisters, all of whom are now deceased. Miss Anna was asked to what she attributed her long life and ^ lent health. “Well, I never married, for one thing,’’ she repli®° “Also, I never see a doctor if I can help it,’’ she said. She has been a patient at Maryfield, a large nursing honia '“i Roman Catholic nuns from Ireland, for the past five years. She ha in the Sheraton Hotel in High Point until a fall was instrumenta' going to Maryfield. . f “She’s still active, happy and grateful to God for having 9*''^ such a long, happy life,’’ said Sister Mary. ^ Miss Anna’s birthday celebration was a warm, wonderful times hectic affair with many old friends stopping by to wish h and bring small tokens of their affection. Miss Anna herself in stride and enjoyed every minute of it.
