The longest Oriental runner
made by Karastan is 120 feet
long and five feet, nine inches
wide. It includes 17 5’9” x 9’
rugs and 92 feet of hand weav
ing. Clara Gravely (left in photo)
and Mary Bray (right) know these
measurements well, especially
the number of handwoven feet,
because they did the handiwork,
personally.
The Oriental runner, Cathay
Medallion pattern in blue, gold
and off-vyhite, covers the floors
of the executive corridors in the
Golden Nugget Casino in Las
Vegas, Nevada.
Oscar Simmons of the Kara
stan Service Center said the ser
vice center is willing and able to
accommodate a customer in re
duction or enlargement of a rug
by handweaving rugs together.
The Oriental runner was deliver
ed to the casino in December.
