Karastan Worsted Mill
Employees Celebrate
3rd Best Safety Record
Employees at Karastan Worsted Milt in Greenville, N.C. recently cele
brated their outstanding safety record for two special reasons: 1) they
have the best safety record of any yarn spinning mill in the company
and 2) they have the third best safety record company-wide.
At the end of 1977 these employees had worked a total of 341,616
safe hours with 6,328 average hours per employee. The last lost-time ac
cident was in March, 1975.
Melvin Moore, division vice president and general manager, Greenville
Spinning Mills, sent each employee a letter of congratulations. “The
real winner in a safety record like this is each and every employee who
has not had to bear the pain, loss of time or earnings, nor dismember
ment of fingers, hands, etc., as a result of serious injury, he said.
The employees were treated to a chicken and barbecue dinner in
honor of their outstanding achievement in safety.
“i have worked in three yarn mills since I have been with Fieldcrest,’’
said Mike Strother, plant manager, “and I have never seen a better
safety attitude than the attitude expressed by the employees of this
plant. Doing a job weil — and safely — seems to go hand-in-hand with
every employee at Karastan Worsted.’’
