Karastan Worsted Mill Employees Celebrate 3rd Best Safety Record Employees at Karastan Worsted Milt in Greenville, N.C. recently cele brated their outstanding safety record for two special reasons: 1) they have the best safety record of any yarn spinning mill in the company and 2) they have the third best safety record company-wide. At the end of 1977 these employees had worked a total of 341,616 safe hours with 6,328 average hours per employee. The last lost-time ac cident was in March, 1975. Melvin Moore, division vice president and general manager, Greenville Spinning Mills, sent each employee a letter of congratulations. “The real winner in a safety record like this is each and every employee who has not had to bear the pain, loss of time or earnings, nor dismember ment of fingers, hands, etc., as a result of serious injury, he said. The employees were treated to a chicken and barbecue dinner in honor of their outstanding achievement in safety. “i have worked in three yarn mills since I have been with Fieldcrest,’’ said Mike Strother, plant manager, “and I have never seen a better safety attitude than the attitude expressed by the employees of this plant. BEVERLY SKELTON Scoftsboro Employees Respond To Red Cross’ Request For Blood Scottsboro Rug Mill employees and the American Red Cross both bene- fitted as a result of the recent visit by the Alabama Chapter’s bloodmobile to the Fieldcrest mill. Thirty-six employees donated a pint of blood during the bloodmobile’s semi-annual visit, entitling Scottsboro employees to receive blood if the need arises. “It was a good turnout,” said Joseph P. Foster, division vice president and general manager, Scottsboro Rug Mill, in commending his employees. Blood donors included Carolyn Allison, Irene Baker, Bedie Boyd, Beulah Chambers, Granville Cotton and Beverly Skelton. Also, William Dodson, Eva Dolberry, Bob Durham, Irene Ferguson, James Guffey, Bruce Hill, Jo Howard, Randy Johnson, Beulah Jones, Marvagene Lackey, Louis Larson, Rita Ledford, Leland McCutchen, Richard Moore. Also, Rosalie Scharf, Reda Selby, Kenneth Sparks, Mary Thomas, Ricky Wallingsford, Fannie Warren, Thomas Webb, Randy Webb, Thomas Womack, Regina Tanner, Carolyn Williams, Charlotte Hudson, Roberta Campbell, Wanda Willmon , Opal Otinger and Darrel Veal.
