Kvery citizeji should be very proud of Superintendent Hall and the great work that he is doing. It is only necessary to compare the county schools o fGaston w'ith the county Schools of other counties to see what an efficient and masterful superinten dent Gaston has. The Farm Life School and a Domestic Science teacher in each township is one of the most modern of ideas. Gaston is to be con gratulated, and Gastonia owes a debt of gratitu*de for being permitted to share in this ex':*’! lent work. Our own school board made a great 3tep forward this yeai‘ wlien it added Public School Music and a Commercial Course. It v^exy true that ail is v/eil that ends v/ell. The superinten dent, because of a very great demand for it, put as his first recommenda tion Domestic Science. But on ac count of its practical value in appeal- •ng to both boys and girls the Board decided to make the Commercial Course first choice. Music was added by the warm support of Commissioner Woltz. Then Mr. Hall came to the ii2scue and we have the Domestic Science. The Commercial and Damestic Science need little mention because jf the self evident practical value. But the music has bol^h the practical and cultural values. Music is one of the greatest allies of worship. There is nothing in the lives of the masses that adds more pleasure than music. It is claimed, by excellent authorities ;hat Vocal Music is to be one of the nost effective means of reducing the many throat troubles and of stamp- ng out the “great white plague,” tuberculosis. If the pupils and pa- rons do their part by thi^ new fea ture and, give it a fair chance it will prove to be one of the greatest de partments in th schl andflineccScieet partments of the schools and o^ne of the most benefical to the com munity. Miss Frew gives time to the youngest as well as to the oldest in the schools. It already appears tliut the schools a:re under great obliga tions to Commissioner Woltz for his ^Tcat service iii getting this depart- -•nent. The Manufacturers Record thinks pretty well of an advertisement that recently apeared in The Southern Public Utilities Magazine to the ef fect that “If you have dodged Gas tonia, N. C., because of its poor hotels, you may now return.” The Record expresses admiration for the manner in which the advertisement is worded and takes for granted that th2 hotel to which it refers “justifies by its character, such an advertisement.” As a matter of fact, the Gastonia hotel under discusion is not only one of the newest in the country, but rep resente the newest ideals in hotel con struction and ek|uipment,' being typical of the finer class of hotels the towns in the South—in North Carolina, in particular—are building and operat ing. No State in the South' has been ■ making greater strides in the im-j portant matter of hotel improvements i than North Carolina. - ”NOTICEr“ i WORTMAN, THE JEWELER Has moved from N.
