Mr, A. C.'Stroup, who has been mana

Mr. S. T. BLack died at his home at
410 E. Franklin avenue, last night at
11:20 o’clock, of tuberculosis. He had
been in failing health for some time.
He was 47 years of age and leaves a
wife, but no children. The remains will
be laid to rest tomorrow morning at
Hickory Grove Church, near McAden-
ville.
Mr. Sidney Malcolm Cornwell died
at the home of his father-in-law, Mr,
B. Harvey, in the Davis Block, on
Main Avenue, Saturday night at 8:20
o’clock, of tubercolosis. Mr. Corn-
well was an employee of the Southern
railroad and worked on the yard at
Salisbury. He had been sick for some
time. He leaves a wife and two chil
dren. Funeral services were held at
the home yestrday afternoon at 4
o’clock by Rev. H. H. Jordan and the
remains laid to rest at Hollywood
cemetery.
“Jimmie” Hickman, the ball player,
who has been^ W'orking here at the
Gray Mill, has been ordered to report
to the Brooklyn Dodgers at _Dayton
Fla., for spring practice. Hickman
was with Asheville, but was sold to
Detroit, and jumped to the Baltimore
Federal league team. The Brooklyn
team has now purchased him from the
Baltimore club. Hickman led^the Car
olina league in batting when he was
with Asheville. He has made many
