The committee No. 2 on suspensions
and expulsions male their report, making
sundry recommendations, which was a-
dopted.
The committee on the books of the
Grand Secretary reported, highly com
plimenti.'ig that officer, which was adopt
ed.
The special ..order—the report of the
committee on the Orphan Asylum—was
taken up and passed upon seriatim. This
report endorses the abandonment of the
Ashville branch of the Aaylum work, and
the Grand Lodge refusing to re-deed the
Ashville property to the original donor.
The orphan work is to be concentrated
at Oxford, A committee was appointed
to wait on the Legislature and solicit an
appropriation to the Orphan Asylum.

Mt. Sermon Lodge, for Asheville Cr-
phan Asylum. Referred to a special

The special order having come up, the
Grand Lodge was called off until 7|
o’clock, and went in a body to the Baptist
Seminary, about sixty of the Brethren
being in the line, and were met by Prof,
liobgood and highly entertained with
music and oalisthenio exercises by the
young ladies of the school. All express
eil themselves highly gratified with the
entertainment.

The minutes were read and approved,
and the Grand Lodge of North Carolina
was closed in ample form.
This was one of the largest representa
tions that has ever a.ssembled in this
Grand Body—there being about 300 in
attendance. Great harmony prevailed,
though there was often sharp and elo
quent debates iu the effoi t by members
to sustain their positions on subjects un
der consideration.
Our Orphan Work absorbed more in
terest and attention than anj'thing else,
and wise deliberations were had respect
ing its interest. The Grand Lodge ap
propriated $2,000, the same as last year,
and a committee was appointed to ask
the Legislature for au appropriation.
We believe that the prospeor, of the In
stitution is more hopeful thas last year,
and by the abiding interest expressed by
the Grand Lodge its usefulness will in
crease and its support be assured.
