Montreal's Contributions To Foreign Missions Many of the former high school and college graduates here at Montreat have entered the mission field both at home and abroad. Among those who have been called into full-time commitment abroad are: Mrs. Carleton White, RN (Miss Betty Gordon Yates) who serves with her hus band, Dr. Carleton White, as a medical missionary in Luebo, Belgian Congo, Africa. Also in Africa are Mrs. Sara Sloop Stauffacher of the Congregational Church and Mrs. W. W. Beckner, Jr. (Miss Wanda Jacobs). Dr. and Mrs. Beckner are at present in Brussels, Belgium, at tending the language school. The Brazilian mission is divided into three sections, east, north, and west. Mon treat has representatives in two of these fields. In West Brazil are Miss Vivian Hodges, Miss Martha Little and Mrs. E. H. Gartrell, Jr. (Miss Catherine Yates), whose husband is a minister. All three are stationed at Patrocineo, Minas, Bradil. In the Northern section there are four former students, Miss Nancy Boyd, Miss Virginia Smith, Miss Willodene Smith, and Miss Ruth Collette, who is in the states on furlough; all are stationed at Reclife, Pernambuco, Brazil. Also Miss Sarah Dawsey and Mrs. Peggy Sloap Andrews of the Methodist Church and Mrs. Jean ette Spellman Andrade, who married a Brazilian minister. Miss Peggy Case is a missionary to India from the Northern Presbyterian Church. In Kobe, Japan, we have Miss Juanita Connell and Miss Jo Anne Heizer. Mrs. Herbert A. Codington, Jr., R.N. H & W 5 & 10 WE APPRECIATE YOUR PATRONAGE Black Mountain, N. C. tioned at Toluca. Mrs. Jas. H. Ross (Miss Pauline Berlin) and her husband, a doctor, are stationed at Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico. Also Mrs. Richard Hoverston (Miss Ruby Morton) and her husband, an agricultural missionary, are at Teloloapan, Guerrero, Mexico. And Mrs. Jennella Williams Gutierrez married a Mexican minister. Among the missionaries sailing this year, 1953-1954, will be Mrs. Earl King (Miss Virginia Wood, RN), Africa; Mr. and Mrs. King’s first stop will be lang uage school in Belgium. Mrs. David Seals (Miss Mary Bachlor) and Dr. Seals sail for Korea. Also going to Korea will be Miss Virginia Bell who is engaged to Rev. John Summerville. John and Virginia plan to be married in early November. Another wedding is just around the corner. Miss Nancy Armistead is engaged to Everette Gurlee, appointee to Brazil. STONE CLOTHES FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY Faculty Concerts Montreat students will receive with en thusiasm the announcement of faculty concerts planned for the winter months. Mr. Frantz has given us the tentative list of concerts. Saturday Evening, November 28 — Concert by faculty members and visiting artists: Elizabeth Frantz, violinist; Sallie Warth Schoen, pianist; Kenneth Moore, clarinetist; Jean Moore, cellist. Wednesday Evening, December 9 — Christmas Concert by Montreat College Chorus, conducted by Allan Guy. Saturday Evening, January 9, 1954 — Faculty Concert to be arranged. Each year Montreat looks forward to these performances. The evening pro grams bring much enjoyment to those who attend.
