Dorm Residents Living Examples
by Sammy Feldman
In Davis Dorm the head residents
are Lee; and Louise OKelly. Lee was
bom in April of 1951 in Pasedena,
California, where he lived for three
years until he moved to Florida. Lee
began at Westminister Seminary in
August 1975. Louise was born in
Pittsburg but later moved to
Philadelphia. It was in the spring of
1976 that Louise met Lee at West
minister Seminary. They had a
common friend in the same church
who tried to match them in tennis,
but Louise wasn’t interested. After a
few inept maneuvers by their friend,
they ■ wound up having dinner
together at his house. Lee persued
Louise and they eventually became
good friends. After dating during his
last year in Seminary, Lee drove to
Florida this summer and they were
married on August 6. 1977.
Lee had been looking for a
teaching position at several
colleges, but to no avail. When he
contacted MAC, Dr, Akers told him
that there were no teaching positions
open, but asked if he were interested
in a position as a head resident of a
dormitory. He said that he was and
he got the job near the end of the
summer.
Lee earned his B.A. degree in
PhLlososphy and a master of arts in
Religion from Westminister. Louise
earned a B.A. degree from Villanova
University in the suburbs of
Philadelphia. She also did graduate
work in the same area.
Lee’s goal in lifeis to teach people
who are interested in learning to
read the Bible. Louise has done
quite a lot of public speaking and her
goal is to continue this with greater
emphasis. The reason she enjoys
this is because it is an avenue
through which she can speak of the
Lord’s activity in her life. She would
like to teach psychology with a
Christian dimension, and to counsel.
All her desires for herself are
secondary to her primary concern
which is to “make Lee shine.’
McGREGOR DORMITORY
Jayne Issacson is the Head
Resident. She was born outside of
Chicago in March, 1955. She moved
to Winston-Salem in 1961 where she
' grew up and has lived until she went
to Wheaton College in 1973. +I
might add that she graduated from
the very prestigious RJ - Reynolds
High School in Winston-Salem.)
She graduated from Wheaton
College in February of this year with
. a B.S. degree in Physical Education.
She got in touch with Martha Sue
during the spring, who had told her
that there was a position open for
Head Resident. She came to
Montreat in May to apply and get an
interview. As you know by now, she
got the job - and I feel I can safely
say that all of us are glad she did!
(continued from last issue)
To backtrack just a bit, Jayne
taught at an intermediate school in
Physical Education last February
through June, as well as managed a
private swimming pool (both in
Winston-Salem), before coming to
Montreat.
“It’s funny, because many people
thingk r m a student, and are
shocked to find out that I am a dorm
mother! They (the girls in
McGregor) say I’m the youngest
mother of eighty girls that they’ve
ever met. I have really fallen in love
with the girls in my dorm, and I
enjoy the time that I get to spend
with them, individually as well as
collectively. My desire in life is to
work with people and I’m right
where I want to be. Through my
relationship with the girls, God has
taught me to a greater degree what
it means to serve others and be
available for anything. Eventually I
want to be a college physical
education teacher and do camp work
in the summer.’
