IFSIIilg HR mE-SiTJH HfliiGin 3ia n by SCOTT RUSSO As 1 begin my senior year at M-ac, i'm raopy to finally see some very positive changes coming about. After all, things here at Concrete-Anderson College have changed very little since the mid 70's and even a few small changes are certainly welcomed by most. Towards the end of last year I was pleased to learn that McGregor would become a Junior/Senior co-ed residence' where we all would be given private rooms. After 3 years in Davis with over five or six different roomates, I've learned to appreciate my privacy. It also feels nice Just to come back to my room and not find lounging all over my nice clean bed passing wind. I just hope that all of the upper classmen can remember that this arrangement is somewhat experimental and it is therefore possible that it may just be temporary. Everything we do in this dorm this year will have a pro found effect on our classmates. We all need to be mature adults and act in the appropriate manner. We really need to prove ourselves to the faculty and staff so they will feel secure in giving future students more responsibility on campus. If we don't do a good job, it could ruin it for the rest of those people wishing to stay at M-AC all four years. If we get treated like adults, we should be willing to act like adults, M-AC IS moving into the future, and I'm glad that we have a faculty/staff that could recognize the need for Change in order to gaurantee the sucess of M-AC as a four year institution It certainly feels rice to move forward and progress rather than to be drawn into the past and I hope this school continues to oo a lot more progressing than it does dioressina npiDDi BELK campus CEUTEB r\.*c**%oiwc,'v C. i mwcA T. . Diana Klima, a freshman here at Montreat, set out to make the guys soccer team, which takes guts In my book. She showed even more courage and determination by going out for a goalie position. Trying out for the guys team was a decision reached by Diana due to Montreat's lack of a girl's soccer team. Back in Baltimore, MD, Diana played goalie for her youth group; this is where her Interest in soccer first began. She was determined from the start to push herself as much as possible. She'll be the first to admit that it was harder than she had anticipated. The one thing that kept her going was the support of her friends here and at home. Support was also given by some of the guys on the team; which somewhat'shocked Diana, Most of the guys 1 talked with had a very good attitude about her trying out. Diana also stated that she did not try out just for special attention and does not want any. She did admit, however, that it seemed more people talked to her after the "word got around." The fact that she was being interviewed proved it to be somewhat of a big deal. Though Diana did not make the team, she feels it was a worthwhile experience, Just knowing that she could keep up with the guys physically gave her more self-confidence. Just because she did not make the team doesn't mean you won't see her at the practices or games. She is now managing the team, so come out and support her and the M-AC Soccer team! imonDflY-THUHSDflY 11:00-11:00 FRIDAY 7:30-12:00 SRTURDRY 2:00-12:00 SUnORY 9:30-11:00 a FHEsaman's first view by Tracy Aiken Going tb a new school is always frightening, but being a feshman, well that is twice as bad. As freshmen, you ■ have fears of being ridiculed because you're the new "kid" in the dorm or the fear of not being accepted by your peers. These can be very frightening to your usual freshman, especially if they are far from home. It is not like that here in Montreat though. During the first few days of school, there were numerous events taking place. From academic testing to Vespers to the McGregor party or the £>3/ ro £3/concert On Sunday, August 23 was the first Vepers. Everyone had lots of fun and fellowship. There were also some personal testimonies that really helped you get to know your new friends. "It was a good time to have fun in Christ," said one student. Everyone at the party in McGregor dorm seemed to be having a great tin'e. "it was great to get to know one another when you :on t rave to .vor^y aoout drugs or alcohol, ' =3id an attendee to the party. The .'"esidents of McGregor wanted to get to know you and wanted to become •'nends and were very excited about itl On Tuesday, .August 25, the contmporary sounds of I?3y toD3y could be heard coming from Gaither Chapel, It is not very often that you find a college likeMontreat-Anderson. When you do, you really begin to see the difference between the huge colleges and universities and the smaller ones. In Montreat the people are warm and they welcome you into their lives willingly and they want to help you learn. Montreat-Anderson is a great place to start!
