No doubt many would say "you bef'i in fact, if you answered yes- you've probably already thought of one or more people that you would call a "Super-Christian", Just what does maKe a person a "Super-Christian"? Well, you might say that they come across with a "holyer-than-thou" attitude. Maybe you nave overheard them making a judgemental statement. Perhaps they stick to one group of friends that are known for being very religious. Most likely you see them carrying their bibles everywhere they go and attending every spiritual event. These are folks that may sin, but never as great as anyone else. Maybe they tell you that they are praying for you. What makes them think you need prayer? First of all, let's seperate the sheep from the goats. There are good "super-Christians" and there are bad ones. It is possible that each have characteristics listed above. The key element that seperates these two groups are love and perception. Jesus dealt with the bad group of "super-Christians" to some extent. In his time they were called Pharisees. They had their act together and followed perscribed religion with a great deal of zeal, They expected everyone else to conform to God's law. The Bible said it and they followed it. They were Interested in making everyone else good. They lacked love. Think of the "super-Christian" (in the negative senseJ that you Imagined earlier. Would you consider asking them for sDlritual advice? Would you reveal to them an unknown sin and ask them for spiritual guidance? If you imagine yourself as one of these folks- be sure to read Roman's 148; John 420, and Roman's 2;3,4 ALETHEIA STAFF Dr. Rich Gray-Advisor Nancy Nichols-Editor Kim Thompson-Associale Editor Mindy Clinard Greg Howard Todd Cost Renee Jenkins Greg Ferrell Peggy Leis John Stiles Alice Harding Pris Maxwell Scott Russo Ahh time for a nap. No classes, no urgent papers, and no problems. Great time for a nap, right? Wrongl You have Just fallen victim to the greatest Joke of the century. I will prove to you that there is no possible way to take a nap on the perfect afternoon. You arrive back at your room at 2:00. That give you three full hours for the perfect nap. You change into the best old T-shirt you ccan find and a comfortable pair of shorts. You fling back the covers and climb into bed. It Is at this moment that you understand the concept of" Just settled down to a long winter's nap". It may be cold outside, but It Is toasty warm in your bed. Now you will begin to understand the cruelty of this Joke. You begin to drift off to sleep. You are almost to the point of sleep when your next-door neighbor comes In and decides that this Is the perfect time for you to be entertained by Donnie and Marie's "I'm a Little Bit Country; I'm a Little Bit Rock and Roll". After a few beatings on the wall, it tones down to a dull roar and you get back under the covers. You are off to sleep agalt\ At that precise moment, the village Idiot gets on the intercom and yells (literally) for a person who doesn't even live tiiere and hasn't for two years. You get up and rebuke the guy in the name of Jesus and head back to bed, Ahhh sleep, right??? Wrongll! The phone starts ringing and continues for the next 64 rings. You get up and On the sheep's side, perception plays a major role. Perhaps we have misjudged the "super-Christian". Maybe they are Just trying to behave as Christ-like as they know how. If you aren't friendly to them it's easy for them to be indifferent to you. This indifference may be mistakem for a righteous attitude. Maybe we feel ashamed of our own behavior and use the "super-Christian" as an excuse not to behave as Christians. Jesus Christ was the greatest Super-Christian of all in the best sense. He followed prescribed religion and lived among the heathen, (not with holier-than-thou-read-my-Blble-every day-you're-a-slnner-you're-gonna-burn attitude). He had a great influence. He loved people. He didn't make people behave. Today's "super-Christian" should be less concerned with making people conform, Ruth Graham once said, "It's my job to love Billy, It's God's job to make him good," start down the hall. I mean; It is only your Job becauase you DO live the far thest away from the phone. You get to the phone approximately 0.75 seconds after the caller hangs up. You head back down the hall and count fifteen people In their rooms who could have answered the phone Instead of you. I guess they figured you need the exercise. As you reach your door, the phone starts ringing again. You wait, and after fifteen rings, you start back up the hall. Your time for this heat Is better and you reach the phone approximately 0.5 seconds after the caller hangs up. As you go back down to your room, the phone starts ringing again and you fly up the hall this time. You make It to the phone and wouldn't you know It, the call is from the same girl that the village Idiot wanted. By this time, you are wide awake and you decide to tie everyone in their rooms, since you now have so much free time. After this task is accomplished, you go downstairs and call up every one of them. Laughter Is the best medicine right?? Well, is that proof enough? Why even try? Who really needs sleep? Not me! M-AC Golf Team is Up to Par 1988 may be the year of athletics for Montreat. Both men's and women's tennis teams will compete this year for the first time in 5 years. Along with tennis comes a nev/ club sport-Golf! Under the great coaching abilities of Dr, Frazier Jones, the golf team has already started playing, and although they woti't compete intercollegiately, they will pl.ay as a club sport, competing with in the team. Dr. Jones says that he saw a need for a golf team here at Montreat. While basketball £.and baseball are sports that you usually leave behind after college, golf is a sport you can play all of your life! The team plays every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from I;30 to 400. The city of Black Mountain has been very helpful as they allow M-AC to play for free. Dr, Jones says spectators are welcome, but they must keep in mind that this is a very relaxed activity. Dr. Jones is very excited about the team, (Brent Heycoop and Knox Bridges will be playing in the Masters this year!), and M-AC is happy to have found a new teacher who has taken so much interest irj the activities of the students.
