A 3-2 victory over Young Harris helped Montreafs Homecoming to be one of the best ever. Homecoming weekend was a very special time, especially for the alumni. Old and new Montreatians gathered at the Barn Friday night to have an old- fashioned "hoe-down". The activities did not stop there. Saturday was the annual Homecoming soccer game and, as mentioned before, we had a victory over Voung-Harris. During half time the Homecoming Court was presented. Most students decided to go out to eat before the Homecoming Dance. A1 Goodman, a freshman student here at Montreat seemed to enjoy eating out with his friends. “I had such an enjoyable evening because of our victory game. COMING HOME TO UlCTORV spending time with terrific friends while dining and looking forward to the homecoming dance!" To end an already enjoyable night, the Homecoming Dance was being held in top floor of Anderson Auditorium. Thanks to the creativity of the Student Activities committee, under the direction of Lou Johnson and Paula Johnson, the decorations made the auditorioum look great. The combination of music end videos on large TV screens made for great dancing. For those of you who missed Homecoming weekend, (why I can't imagine) you missed a great one! SHANNON HODGINS On Saturday, Sept. 17, M-AC lost to Lees-McCrae at our home field in a very wet, muddy and fast-paced game. Lees-McCrae is an excellent team and M-AC was definitely challenged. Despite this loss, the team felt hopeful and considered it to be a well played gome. On Tuesday, Sept. 20, the Cavs lost to Anderson College In a game that 'was not only exciting to watch, but must have been exciting to play! The team spirit was high and the crowd cheered, and really supported the players. The crowd was especially excited when Tracey Sauls bounded out onto the field to show the other team how to really play. Excitement ran rampant among both the soccer players and fans as Montreal enjoyed a victory for the 1988 Homecoming gome. As Tim Hill quotes, "It was a tremendous victory!" Montreal soccer players proved that they ore definitely a team, and only needed to gain their confidence as a team to prove their superiority on the field. The game was played against Voung-Harris, a team that Montreal did have to work hard to win against. The final score was 3-2 with the goals scored by Teddy James, Jeff Wilcox, and Marc Duarte. These soccer players enjoyed the thrill of adding a goal to their name, but the entire team took part in winnng each goal. Montreat played egressively, as Scott Higgins says, "We played well, winning the ball." The level of confidence and agressiveness has grown tremenoousiy in these players, as the referees say, "Agressiveness is good as long as you stay with the rules." Many alumni did attend the game and were impressed by the victory. Montreal players won not only for themselves, but for the team, our school, and our visitors. As Warren Turnipseed exhorts, Tm happy!" Montreat enjoyed yet another victory on Wednesday, October 5. The final score was 4-2 against Mulligan. Montreat played an excellent game, full of action and victory as Montreal proved once again that, yes, they are a team. As Jeff Wilcox says, "These last two games are the best we've ever played. Confidence level is higher than ever, and the reason we're winning— we've never been more agressive and that's why we're winning the ball." The four goals were scored by Bill Willard, Marc Duarte, and two by Jeff Wilcox, who has recovered with style after a slight Injury in the Homecoming game. Warren Turnipseed assisted in one goal made by Jeff Wilcox. All players played exceptionally well, one spectacular show was by Paul Ushko who played as keeper for most of the gome. Paul did a terrific job in keeping Mulligan from scoring. Tom Bashara played very well also end Dave Miller even gave up an ankle for a while during this game. (All players— you did great!!) The fans did an awesome job at this game too. They screamed out their support for their team, and really showed their school spirit. As Sam Wheeler simply states, "It feels good to be on the upper half."
