OEUIL WORSHIP: LOHflT DOES GERRLDO SRV?
Tuesday, October 25th, as students
were still arriving on campus from Fall
Break, Howerton lobby was packed with
students. Alt ears were tuned to a
special presentation by talk show host
Geraldo Rivera, called "Devil Worship:
Satan's Underground Exposed." The 2
hour special aired on NBC.
This special presentation revealed
all types of murders, tortures, human
and animal sacrifices and other satanic
rituals related to this cult. These
rituals are performed to Satan in hopes
of the worshipper obtaining power in
Hell. The "priests" in this cult
brainwash the worshippers to believe
in thier Satanic Bible. A strong belief
of Satan Worshippers is that "good is
evil and evil is good". These people see
nothing wrong with sacrificing an
innocent newborn baby or torturing a
teenager to death.
Law enforcement officials were
interviewed before and during this
special presentation. Some of these
officers have seen and witnessed these
cult rituals. Some of these officers
have arrested and tried to prosecute
the sick minds within these cults. One
such example is the murderer Charles
Manson, who stated in a taped
interview with Geraldo that he
(Manson) "is the devil and God is dead".
Prosecution of Satan worshippers
is next to impossible because of the
lack of evidence. Rarely is there found
HERTHER EDHRRDS
a-body or skeleton of a human sacrifice
or torture. If the body is not burned to
ashes, tte remains are eaten by
worshippers or the remains are chopped
up and disposed of like trash.
Geraldo interviewed numerous
parents whose children have been
abused, tortured and/or murdered by
these Satan worshippers. The story of
one woman's children sacrificed to
Satan is told in her book "Satan's
Worship." The release of her book has
prompted hundreds of parents to report
their children's involvement in Satan
worship and the sacrifice rituals their
children are involved in.
Geraldo also interviewed the
children. Some of these children
interviewed were as young as four and
five years of age. The viewers were
shocked to hear children tell explicit
stories of how they were sexually
abused, tortured and some who were
even forced to kill other children in
Satanic worship. It was very heart
wrenching to know of the physical,
emotional, and mental scars these
children will have for the rest of thier
lives.
A former Satan worshipper who is
due to die by lethal injection for the
murder of his father, step-mother and a
convenience store clerk, was
interviewed from the Minnesota State
Pennitentiary. The teenager, Sean
Sellars, is sixteen years old. When
asked if he had used Satanism as an
excuse for the murders he committed,
Sean replied, "Absolutely not!" He went
on to tell television viewers that he
had accepted Jesus as his personal
savior and the only way for anyone to
fully get out of any Satanic cult, was
through Jesus Christ. A few of the
viewers in Howerton expressed their
disbelief as to Sean's salvation but I
believe him. I believe when we get tc
heaven, he'll be there.
I was extremely impressed by
Geraldo's words and actions throughout
the program. Every 15 minutes, he
would stop the show and tell television
viewers that it was NOT for children to
watch. He kept repeating that parental
discretion was advised and with the
stories and pictures shown, children
should not be watching.
The program was very informing
although somewhat'alarming to realize
how widespread the Satanic worships
have gone. Years ago, it only involved
"wierdos" and strange people. Now,
your next door neighbor could be
involved and you would never know.
That's scary.
Mark 12:29 ". .. the Lord our God is
one Lord. .." 12:32 ". . there is one God:
and there is none other but he." Some
Satan worshippers believe that Satan is
the only ruler of the world and believe
Satan is the only god. We know better!

"In God We Trust," the title cut
from Stryper's newest album was first
seen by me on MTV— played between
two other rockin' groups. Poison and
Cinderella. I was pleased. Being the
Stryper fan that I am, I went out in
search of Stryper. Unfortunately, the
controversy surrounding this group has
made most of my usual Christian
Bookstore haunts unwilling and/or
"unable" to carry^ any of Stryper's
music, so I headed on out to the good
ole' record store.
Of all groups, 1 would love to give
Stryper's album a rave review but to me
this album was quite a
dissapointment.
Although I appreciate Stryper's
effort to make us aware of America's
present state of affairs through the
songs "In God We Trust" and The Reign,"
I can't appreciate the actual songs. "Ir
God We Truef is o short song which
sounds like at least five other Stryper
songs. The Reign" screams out the
lyrics ‘Cars, mansions and planes/
Income that never refrains/ which
Js a foreshadowing of the song, which
NICHOLS
never refrains but seems to loosely
scream out some ideas with no metre
or rhythm included. With screaming
guitars (or is it keyboards and drums?)
the soloist crescendos and decresendos,
once again crescendoing into a throat
rasping screech. The Reign" carries
poetic license too far. (Carl Sandburg
might as well have written something
called "Chicago.")
There are some redeeming
features, such as Stryper's consistent
release of albums. The songs "Come to
the Everlife" and The World of You and
I" are better than the afore
mentioned songs but there again
predictable.
Another song that caught my
attention was “It's Up 2 U". That's right
folks, not To You" but "2 U." What is
Stryper trying to say? "Hmmmm.. .you
be the judge."
Despite this lousy review, I am
still a loyal Stryper fan. I somehow
can't help but admire a Christian group
that appears on MTV between Poison
and Cinderella. One bad album out of
thier many other sucesses, I hope is
just a fluke.

"Rea! Life Conversations" by
Steven Curtis Chapman is a definite
statement of the maturing of this
artist's talent. Chapman's previous
album "First Hand" was an upbeat album
with many good messages but without a
lot of variation in style. (I always felt
like I was listening to either a "slow
song" or a "fast song") Although this
album isn't a 100% break from
Chapman's stylistic accomplishments-
that's okay! Succeeding in polishing his
already "good" music Chapman has made
this one terrific album! There is a lot
more variation between the two albums
and between options on "Rea! Life
Conversions."
As far as "best song" goes, I think
Chapman should be highly commended
for "Jesus' Eyes" This song differs
from the usual rhyme and word play
Chapman likes to employ. I consider
the lyrics in this song to be pure poetry
set to music. The orchestration in the
song is blended beautifully with the
lyrics, serving to enhance the poetic
effect even more.

gripe and complain about what is
provided in the cafeteria or anywhere
else for you. I think Jack does a super
job in the cafeteria in providing new
and special things. There has been
quite a change since I first came here
four years ago. Believe me, it's a lot
better and it keeps improving. It really
aggravates me to hear people complain
about the food. Did you know that God
tells us not to complain? Philippians
2:14 says, do all things without
complaining and arguing." Just
remember that there is always someone
who is less fortunate than you are and
you could have been one of those less
fortunate, but God chose to bless you in
this area. So why not take a few
minutes right now and really thank Him.

Other accomplishments include,
"Faittifiil Too," "His Strength Is
Perfect," and "Wait." Songs with a
particularly moving message are "For
V/ho He Really Is," and "Truth or
Consequences," a song which, 1 think,
we all can find particularly easy to
relate to; "The TV said just make
sure you're old enough/ And let
your feelings tell you when it's
right/ What went wrong? She
thought it was really love/ Now
she wonders why she just can't
sleep at night/ She knew the rules
but they were too old fashioned/
Was it worth the the price she had
to pay/ It's either truth or
consequences..."
Regardless of where your
preferred musical tastes lie. Chapman's
style and masterful lyrics create a
definite and wonderful message of
God's grace in the midst of our
weaknesses. Chapman's honesty and
sincerity is appreciated by this
listener.
