Motley Crue, Clapton
to Rock Carolina's
By JIM ELDER
Charlotte Editor
Greetings and
salutations from that
thriving metropolis of
Charlotte NC.
Last time I started off by
complimenting my Editor,
Bob Graham, so I feel it
appropriate to begin this
edition in like fashion,
because Bob really deserves
it. I don't believe you can
ask for a more agreeable
Editor and, I think, every
lady on campus should give
him a hug. How's that
Bob? Is my check in the
mad?
Not much has changed
as far as my life goes so
let's get right to the concert
information. Billy Joel is
still on for March 2 at the
Charlotte Coliseum. There
are limited seats left, so if
you want to go, I suggest
you get your tickets now.
Also on March 2,
Whitesnake and Kix will be
playing at the University of
Tennessee Thompson
Bowling Arena in
Knoxville. One last March
2 concert, Warren Zevon
will be appearing at Center
Stage Arena in Atlanta.
March 8 will see
Whitesnake at the Omni in
Atlanta. Nantucket will play
the Depot Street Music Hall
and Grille in Boone on
March 10. Ace Frehley,
formerly the guitarist for
KISS, will be at Cadillac's
in Hickory March 17. Also
on March 17, ARS,
formally known as the
Atlanta Rhythm Section,
will play at the Depot in
Boone. March 18 at 1313
Club in Charlotte, Michael
Penn will take the stage. At
the Depot on March 22,The
Creek will be performing.

Dream Girls:
Supreme
By JUDY DAVIS
Review Writer
The Month of February
has been Black-History
Month and what better way
to celebrate than to see
DreamGirls. On the 15th
of February about 26
students went to Thomas
Wolfe auditorium to see a
musical that has the
potential to be back on
Broadway. Dreamgirls
was presented as a take-off
on the Supremes' life and
how things in show
business can turn dirty.
The main characters had
excellent voices that might
even match Kristine
Buckwalter with a little
practice. At some points it
was difficult to hear what
was being said because the
actors were singing then-
lines. However, I think we
all got the point of the
story. Dreamgirls was
sometimes like a
soap-opera with girls
fighting over men and
marriages that needed to
end because of "dreams".
The story began with
three young girls trying to
make it 'Big' in the music
business. The lead singer,
Effie, was causing some
problems, so they slowly
pushed her out of the
group. A new girl came in
to replace her and helped to
make the DreamGirls a big
hit. On her own, Effie was
becoming one of the
biggest stars around with
songs topping the charts.
Problems came up, but in
the end apologies were said
and the Dreamgirls did their
final show with Effie as
their special guest.
The musical had humor
in it, but there were also the
seriousness of the struggle
for blacks in the music
world and the unfairness of
show business. The show
was sponsored by UNC-A
and the tickets for M-AC
students were purchased
through student activities.
Keep you eyes open for the
next event. You don't
want to miss another!
will play the Charlotte
Coliseum on March 25. At
the Raleigh Civic Center
March 27, Greatwhite,
MSG, and Havanah Black,
March 28 at the Omni, Eric
Clapton will be performing.
Eric will also be playing the
Charlotte Coliseum on
March 30 and the Dean
Smith Center on the 31.
Asheville Civic Center will
host Motley Crue and Faster
Pussy Cat on March 30.
Chris Lau and I caught the
Crue in Charlotte a couple
of weeks ago and , as Chris
will tell you, it was quite a
show. I highly recommend
it. O.K. Deadheads, here's
one for you. April 1,2, and
3 the Grateful Dead will be
at the Omni in Atlanta. If
you have never been to an
April 1st Dead show, you
need to go. April 10 you
can catch Whitesnake at the
Greensboro Coliseum.
And last, but certainly not
least, the Ramones will play
Masquerades in Atlanta on
May 1.
Well that wraps it up for
this edition. Keep the faith
and remember, don't take
life too seriously, if
seriously at all. Chiao for
now!
