Whitt Crowned
King of Hearts
By A1 Goodman
Staff Writer
As you all know,
February 14th was
Valentine's Day. This day
also marked the annual King
of Hearts Pageant. For
some of you out there who
don't know what this is, I
will give you a brief
explanation of this contest.
The women from MA-Hall
and McGregor nominate
guys form Davis Howerton
and McGregor to perticipate
in this "beauty" contest.
From this list, eight guys
are selected and asked to be.
in it.
This year we had an
exciting roster of Montreat's
best representatives of
manhood (I felt like I had to
say that). Marc Duarte,
Kevin Harris, and Sam
Wheeler represented Davis
Dorm. Howerton's
Representatives were
Hunter Stevenson, Billy
Whitt, and Charlie Wilson.
And to round up this list,
Gary Helms and Mark
"Cluck" Woodall were
delegates from McGregor.
The King of Hearts
Pageant consisted of four
categories; talent, swimsuit,
formal and questions. Beth
Bell, Tisa Lewis, Mike
McDowell and Michelle
Wing were the judges of
these categories. They
graded the contestants on a
scale from one to five.
Emceeing the contest was
Andrew "Sebastian" Bell.
There was a lot of variety in
talents from each contestant
from ballerinas to hip hip
hoola hooping. Each guy
portrayed a t^ent that was
unique to their personality.
During times of
intermission, fillers were
used to entertain the
audience. Matt Auten
delighted the audience with

on of his hilarious songs.
Then after the swim suit
competition (for some of the
contestants a lack of one)
Alberta Goodman, who
recieved an Honorable
Mention, dazzled the
audience with two of her
numbers. The second song
was done with 'her' two
cohorts-in-crime Boo Berry
and Amy Adams. As the
judges were making their
final decision, Kristine
'Jasmine' Buckwalter paid
tribute to our guys with the
Carpenters' tune "Close to
You"
These were the results
of the judges' decision.
Marc Duarte came in as
runner-up. Billy Whitt was
crowned the 1990 King of
Hearts by last year's winner
Greg Howard. We would
like to congratulate Billy on
this honor and to thank
everyone who took the time
to help with this activity.

What’s S.G.A.?
You Should Know!
By HUNTER STEVENSON
S.G.A. President
The Student
Government Association is
a body of elected student
leaders representing the
students to the faculty and
administration. This body
meets every other Monday
night at 6:30 in the BCC
Conference Room. The
SGA welcomes students to
this meeting to listen and to
participate in the
discussions. Since this
body is a representation of
your voice, come give them
your support and opinions
on Mondays.
In the last month, SGA
has created a cafeteria
survey to get the students
opinions on the atmosphere
and food of the cafeteria.
The cafeteria staff and the
SGA will be working hard
together to grant your
requests.
Some complaints about
the effectiveness of advisors
were brought to the
attentions of the SGA.
Michelle Thomas and
myself took these
complaints to the Academic
Dean, Dr. King. He was
already in the process of
improving the effectiveness
of the advisors. He is
recirculation a handbook on
academic advising to all the
advisors. He assured us
that our advisors will be
more prepared by the end of
March, which is when
advising for next year
begins.
Several students
attended the last SGA
meeting and wanted a type
of open forum with the
SGA. A date has not been
set yet, but this meeting-will
be during the week we
arrive back form spring
break. We strongly
encourage you students to
come and give your
opinion.
We hope that through
the Alethia we can keep
students informed about
what SGA is doing for
them. The SGA would like
to thank Bob Graham for
setting this up for us!
Thanks Bob!
