The “A” Word Stunned were we all by the bold green lettering on the front of our papers March 6, which I would affection ately refer to as the “A” word. This is good; we are talking about it so much lately we are almost tired of using the word. Mission accomplished: people are talking. People are solving? Not sure. Obviously, though this is the first step in problem solving. Anyone who has concern for our college is greatful for this campaign, as I cer tainly am, but I did not appreciate all the tactics of the approach. I have always been a bit leery of talking about the problem too much. It is my opinion, that too much talking about bad attitudes can lead to or border on PESSIMISM. We have something started here, we must be cautious about dealing with this so that our attitudes and actions do not fall into the whole negative whirlwind. To get at a prob lem, we must talk first, but we will only alter the problem by another “A” word: ACTION. We have to put our talk into practice, just as in our Chris tian lives. Let us offer pertinate sug gestions and comments to the right people-not out roommates. I’m not sure that ACTION means running for Student Body President [or any other student held office]; but when I have noticed change on this campus throughout my four (4) years, it has always come about with much prayer. If we could all turn our chattering into fervent prayer, change would occur. And it is. Whether people know it or not, there are several small groups of students gathering to pray hard and often for our institution. This is excit ing! Become a part of this kind of action and you’ll be doing your part. As a Senior on my way out, my main suggestion is for students to work hard - as students first. Stabilize yourselves academically as much as possible, then take action in Student Government, etc. I believe academ ics is at the core of the problem here. If a student can come in, work hard and do well in the classroom, his or her whole attitude about everything is subject to change. If we can become confident in ourselves, and feel good about what we are really here for, in my opinion, good things will begin to fall in place.
