Siekkinen Staff Writer If you're looking for the chance to be come involved here at Montreat-Anderson College, the Student Christian Association is the group to join. One of the main goals of SCA is to disciple students and support them in their walk with Christ. This year, SCA is offering a small group program here on cam pus. Small groups offer help and support on a personal level through Bible studies, discussions, and ac tivities, and are a great way to become closer to some of your fellow classmates and to meet people who can relate to you and share your interests. Another way to become involved in SCA is to participate in Vespers every Sun day from 7-8 p.m. Vespers is designed to offer students a neu tral place to worship. Marc Duarte, presi dent of the SCA, says he's found that stu dents who attend Ves pers find the experi ence very rewarding. SCA offers stu dents a variety of proj ects to become in volved in, both on and off campus. One of the best ways to serve God is by serving others. Through SCA's off campus ministry pro grams many students are called to channel their energy towards helping others. By using you gifts and talents to reach out to others you will benefit both emotionally and spiritually, and others will profit as well. "Children awaken your own sense of self when you see them hurting, struggling, testing; when you watch their eyes and listen to their hearts." (Kathleen Crilly) SCA challenges students to reach out to under privileged children ranging from age 5 to age 18 at the Presbyte rian Children's Home through their Big Brother/Big Sister pro gram. Another similar program is also offered that involves dealing with troubled youth at the Juvenile Detention Center. Look around. There are so many people who need what we can offer. There are so many people around this area who need people to minis ter to them. The Black Mountain Center, a facility for physically, emotionally, and men tally handicapped people is in need of people to visit and share some of their time. SCA also en courages students to minister to people in a unique way by join ing "Habitat for Hu manity," an organiza tion that provides low income housing. Through positive action we can create a world where people face life's challenges with God's purpose and the good of others as their motivation and where God is re ally number one! Reach out and meet the challenge! For more information on any of the programs mentioned above, con tact SCA president, Marc Duarte.
