^age ‘Eight, Tfu. ^tfuia Parking Crisis ? By: Susan Long Staff Writer If you are not a driver of this college's streets, then you have not noticed but many students have—parking is a problem! In years past, parking has also been a issue, but this year's beginning brought more than the usual dose of trouble. With a three to one male/female ratio, and over 70 day students, available parking spaces have become limited. Montreat-Ander son Hall is possibly where the major cri sis lies. There are more than 67 girls registered to park with this dorm and only one gravel park ing lot along side of a few individual park ing spaces to accom modate the number. Many freshmen were instructed to park in the lower half of the Belk Campus Center parking lot. This however, cuts faculty and day student parking down. To solve this problem, the college is allow ing some faculty park on the curb of the Olympic Flame Restaurant Mon-Wed 11-10 ^ y. The admini stration is also mov ing more of the Montreat-Anderson dorm drivers to the gravel lot. Are you like the others around cam pus? Wondering if future freshmen will be allowed to drive to school after this year's "overload?" According to Sam Wheeler, Student Government Presi dent, this is not a con sideration at all and '91-'92 freshmen need not be con cerned. Many state- supported schools such as North Caro lina State University, as well as many other private colleges do not have the fresh man driving privi lege. It is a character istic that makes Montreat imique. Freshmen Shelly Morris agrees, "I ap preciate the Montreat privilege of freshman driving. On other campuses, freshmen pay a very high price to store their cars and can drive only on weekends." So students, calm your anxieties; the parking problem will hopefully clear itself up. Until then, be patient and consid erate with your park ing. Open SATURDAYS 8 until 1 411W. Stat* StrMt Black Mountain, NC (704) 669-73M
