^agc Sv(j The i^theia "Ever Heard of Decency ?" By: Shannon Hodgins Staff Writer "Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing; but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are there unto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile..." — I Peter 3:9,10 I believe that this verse speaks to every person. I also infer that this verse speaks, in an extrodinarily clear way, to people who deem it necessary to judge or be little other people on the basis of personal or materialistic aspects. Admittedly, I find it very difficult to love every person, yet can't we at least try to like each other? I have certain things in my life that I am self-conscious about, yet I also have the dig Makin' it great! 502 W State St. Black Mountain Large. One Tapping Tizza ' Only ^ Good Thru Next Week W Coupon ^ nity and self-respect not to criticize others to bol ster my own confidence. I also don't need another person to reiterate as pects of my life, as I trust you don't either. I think that it is very juvenile for people to gossip, de grade and betray trust and friendship whether they are a Christian or not. Ever heard of de cency? I am not writing this because of a personal grievance, I am trying to force people to realize that they are falling into the "small school" stere otype of apathy and hurt. Come on folks, your not in high school anymore. Each person is unique in his/her own way. Why can't we focus on a person's great personal ity, their humor, or how they help us instead of how they walk, talk, or aspects in their personal life which are none of our darn business any way? Maybe I am speak ing from the "lofty" wis dom of a junior: but I have found through my years to accept people for their inner- beauty, not the image they may sometimes portray. Or maybe I just don't need to feed my ego and my self-confidence by being a jerk. Peter Gabriel gives me my favorite quote: "How can we be in if there is no outside?" There should be no per son "outside" at Mon- treat-Anderson College; every person is worthy of love, self-respect and friendship. I am far from perfect and find it very difficult sometimes to live up to the ideals I have ex pressed. Admittedly I sometimes fall way be low the standard I would like to attain. You also are far from perfect, and thus we all need to real ize that the only perfect person in body, soul and action is Christ himself.
