lUe Metfieia Weel^y ^oCume XXlV, O^mBer ^ O^ontreat-Anderson Coihge OctoSer 18,1990 M-AC Embraces the Future By John Ireland Assistant-Editor If you have been plugged into the informa tion lines here at M-AC you may have heard that McG regor is going to be tom down because of bad plumbing, poor wiring, etc. Perhaps you managed to catch the drawing at the bottom of page five in the last issue of The Aletheia Weekly, and, through a process of careful elimina tion, deduced that the build ing shown doesn’t exist at Montreat. Maybe you have even heard that McGregor will be destroyed and re placed with the aforemen tioned building. These rumors and oth ers like them have stemmed from a lack of knowledge about a new campaign which is being run by the Montreat-Anderson Col lege Foundation in an ef fort to raise $10 million two things: Montreat be- dollars for six areas in coming an accredited four- which the Board of Tms- year institution, and a study tees feel expansion is which predicts a tremen- needed. The breakdown of dous growth in student the programs and their al lotted money is as follows: $3,750,000 for a new dor mitory, $3,000,000 for an endowment, $2,250,000 for ongoing support, $75,000 for library acqui sitions, $625,000 for a con tingency fund, and $750,000 for the renova tion of existing buildings. This campaign with its designated areas of im provements is the result of population within the next four years. The student population at M-AC is expected to reach 550 re sulting from the new pro grams. The new dorm has been designed to accommodate 160 students and a campus infirmary. According to an informative pamphlet that is being distributed by the M-AC Foundation, this project will also include. “a main lobby and recep tion area, a resident direc tor apartment, laundry fa cilities, vending areas, lounges on each floor, a courtyard and six infirmary rooms.” As of yet the build ing has no name, and the rights to the name will be given to the person or group who donates a million dol lars or more. In addition to current goals, there is also a desire to raise an additional $4,800,000. This money will go toward the construc tion of a Sports and Stu dent Life Center ($4,000,000), the establish ment of a Computer-based Information Center ($50,000), and construction of a Chapel ($750,000).
