(Page Tkvo, Tfe S^etfuia Shooting For The Top By: Sarah Whitecotton Staff Writer The Lady Cavs be gan the season on a winning note by defeat ing Covenant College 68- 58 on November 10 at home. After the first half, the Lady Cavs went to the locker room leading 30- 19. Junior wing Shayna White and freshman guard Shon Snipes put the fastbreak into opera tion and surprised the other team. During the early second half, the Lady Scots of Covenant came back and covered the 11 point difference and then took a 2 point lead. The Lady Cavs called a time out, the team settled down. Sopho more guard Alison Swanger shot a 3 pointer that put the Lady Cavs V. . back on top. After matching baskets for several minutes, Gracie Mann, White, Snipes, and Swanger all contrib uted to the Lady Cavs victory over Covenant. "We got some good baseline from White, Trish Lewandowski played well defensively, Gracie Mann played good defensively even if she had to hobble around the court," Coach Bostic said. White had an ex- cellant game, contribut ing 35 points, 10 re bounds, and 7 steals. Snipes also added 15 points, while Swanger followed closely with 10. Lewandowski domi nated the boards with 9 rebounds. "Covenant was the way we wanted to start the season. We have a lot of potential. It was great fun-it got the play ers motivated." But victory didn't come easily in the sec ond game of the season. The Lady Cavs lost to Milligan College on Tuesday, November 13, 67-89. "We had no en thusiasm, no intensity. It was one of those nights when nothing goes right and everything goes wrong," Coach Bostic stated. 'They were a big, aggressive team that wore us out mentally as well as physically." By the half the Lady Cavs were down 42-24. It caused a 5 point turn around. After the foul, the Cavs got the ball back and scored a basket, but then mistakes hit, and Milligan went ahead by 13 points and eventually won the game 67-89. Although the score may seem negative, there were a few high lights in the game. "Skeet" Bridges played extremely good defen sively contributing 6 steals, while Shayna White added 30 pints, 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Senior post Judy Davis had 6 points earned by 3 quick baskets. Shon Shipes added 14 points and 4 rebounds and Gracie Mann, still hob bling added defensively as well with 7 rebounds.
