Tage Thrce/Ihe Saddam Hussein Begins Withdraw From Kuwait By: Shannon Hodgins Assistant Editor On Feb. 25, 1991, Baghdad radio stated that Iraqi forces are now with drawing from Kuwait. This statement is greeted with skepticism on part of many Americans, who feel that Hussein is withdrawing only because he will soon be cut off by American ground troops. As of yesterday, Hussein has launched two Silkworm, anti-ship missiles. Neither missile reached its target due to interception or poor targeting. Hussein also launched a SCUD missile which killed 12 American soldiers near Riyadh. To day, America is are using heli copter jamming frequencies to confuse Iraqi radar. These measures will better diguise the amphibious manuevers that are currently underway. Baghdad's radio state ment has been met with an apparent lack of enthusiasm on the part of President Bush and other White House offi cials. Apparently, Iraqi troops are withdrawing northward in reaction to, and fulfillment of, Soviet resolu tions (Or so Baghdad radio states). The White House, HUDDLE HOUSE RESTAURANTS BEST FOOD YET M-AC Students And Faculty Two Huddle Burgers with French Fries Good through 3/13/91 right now, is looking into the matter. They say that they will make no official comment until concrete facts have been gathered. Officials say that Ameri can troops are still firing on the withdrawing Iraqi troops, in an effort "To destroy them"(CNN). Officials also say that the weather is pre venting a full engagement "that we would enjoy." Of ficials state that this Iraqi withdrawal does not meet President Bush's full terms, and there is no word as of yet on a cease fire. If Hussein is attempting to withdraw as a result of the Soviet terms, what will be the political repercussions of such actions? U.S.Newsand World Reports states that, "In an ap parent effort to carve out a larger role for themselves in the gulf CTisis and its resolu tion, Soviet officials have bolted from the diplomatic sidelines with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati, representatives of the Euro pean Community and even Saddam Hussein himself." Whatever the Soviet's reac tion, one must look to them to be a key player in this Middle East drama.
