Take It or Leave It
By Donna Buggs
Page 37 of the student hand
book states that, “Under the
Honor Code, you, the student
are on your honor not to lie,
cheat, or steal, and if you do, you
are on your honor to report your
self within 24 hours to a member
of the Honor Council. If you see
another student lying, cheating,
or stealing, you are on your honor
to report him, with the option of
asking him to report himself to a
member of the Honor Council or
to report him to an employee of
the college.”
Is this a good system that is
reliable and supports the true
outcome of justice? The view
points of members of the ad
ministration, faculty , and stu
dent body are reported.
Dean Hargrove believes that
the Honor Code system will
make a student aware that he, or
she, is responsible for himself,
or herself, and that following it,
“brings about success.” Dean
Hargrove also believes that the
Honor Code system is reliable,
and he supports and enforces it
completely.
Mr. Batson, a business pro
fessor at Mon treat-Anderson,
thinks that the Honor Code de
fines M-AC and strongly sug
gests that all students follow the
system. Dr. Chesky, head of the
English education department,
is in favor of the Honor Code be
cause, “Professors don’t act like
police officers.”
On the other hand, the stu
dent body has mixed opinions.
Jennifer (Bull) Stimett, a fresh
man, says that, “ It’s none of
your business what another per
son does.” Yolonda McMullen,
a second year student, also does
not agree with the Honor Code.
She says that one should not tell
on one’s peers because they will
be given justice by God.
Cameron Scott, a second semes
ter junior at Montreat, believes
that the Honor Code is good but
also says that, “Very few stu
dents will adhere to this rule
because it can bring about bad
blood among the students. ” Mike
Zolt, a senior at Montreat and a
business major, says that, “Some
one who cheats should be disci
plined,” and completely agrees
with the Honor Code System.
No matter how anyone feels,
the Honor Code is now a part of
the Montreat-Anderson Student
Judicial System and all students
and faculty members should
adhere to it whether the system
is reliable or not.

SCA - “Seeking the
Kingdom”
By Kim Holt
Throughout the campus
there has arisen great hope for
the new school year. With this
new hope comes the echoing
demand for revival on our cam
pus, a renewed interest in the
spiritual lives of each student at
Montreat-Anderson. Ron Nicho
las of Inter-Varsity Christian Fel
lowship says that “if a campus is
to be confronted with the great
ness of Christ, it would require
the involvement of every Chris
tian on campus.” Involvement is
the key to our revival.
The Student Christian As
sociation plans to be a major part
of this revival. SCA President,
Rhonda Littlejohn, says, “We
want to get people excited about
a personal relationship with Je
sus Christ through Christian
Fellowship and SCA-sponsored
activities.” Her goal is for stu
dents to become more unified
before God and to “encourage
each other spiritually.”
The SCA off-campus min
istries include the Black Moun
tain Center, a treatment center
for the mentally and physically
handicapped. This ministry is led
by Kenneth Graham. The Juve
nile Evaluation Center ministry
is led this year by Debbie Crain.
The Children’s Home ministry
is being led by Mark Tucker,
Joanna Knowles, and Lynn
Vaught. These off-campus min
istries are organized by Kurt
Rothgeb.
On-campus ministries in
clude the Vespers program led
by Rebecca Bush, Tom
McMurtry, and Evan Llewelyn.
The Vespers theme this year is
"Seeking the World for Jesus
Christ One Person at a Time."
On-campus co-ordinator
Sara Swinson is organizing the
small group studies that began
the week of September 9th. If
you are interested in being a
member of a small group Bible
study, it is not too late.
The missions co-ordinator
this year is Sonja Gentry. The
Missions Conference is sched
uled for October. SCA is still
looking to fill the positions of
Dogwood Manor co-ordinator
and Habitat for Humanity repre
sentative. If you are interested in
being involved this year with
SCA and its many different op
portunities to serve, speak with
Rhonda Littlejohn. Get involved
this year and play your part in the
new revival.
