From ihc CAMPUS NEWS Page Three, The Aletheia SGA PRESIDENT Many students here at Mon treat-Anderson College feel that now is the time for the college to make some serious strides towards becoming one of the premier colleges in the south. Our college should not be concerned with meeting the standards of other institutions, but rather we should set the standards ourself. This sounds good, but withouta student body willing to invest some time and energy into the college, we cannot achieve greatness. We have the necessary administrative leadership in our new president: we will have the necessary funds at the completion of our multi-million dollar campaign; we have a strong faculty. However, all this is useless without a student body for growth. The choice is ours. We can sit back and watch the other colleges pass us by, or we can use our God-given talents to make Montreat-Anderson a leader among colleges in the south. God has placed each of us here for a purpose; wouldn’t it be good to reach the end of the year and have Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a litde, I will set you over much”? You are important, and you are needed by the SGA, SCA, and/ or Student Activities Committee. Please get involved, study hard, have a great year, and most importantly, please pray consistently for the college. In the Servii Freshman Invasion By Tara Paquette As the year begins, the re turning students realize that there are more new students than ever before. The new students are from diverse backgrounds with new ideas. Some have an easier time coping with leaving home than others. Many consider Montreat an “escape” from home while others are filled with de pression and homesickness. The primary reasons new students are attracted to the col lege are the family - like size, the Christian atmosphere, and the beauty of the area. The majority of new students are thrilled to be here and are excited about the upcoming school year. However, there are a few who feel that Montreat-Anderson is a con finement camp. The reasoning behind this statement includes; the curfew, study hours, and the first three weeks weekend re strictions. The new students either love Montreat, or strongly dislike it. There appears to be no in be tween. A portion of the students feel stuck in God’s country, while the rest are on fire fw God and thrilled to be here. One thing all the new stu dents agree about is that they have made some special friends. Many of these friendships will lasta hfe-time. Montreat-Ander son College is like a family and that is a positive influence on everyone. Each student is put here by God for a specific reason. Some have not yet realized why but they will continue to search for the answer. When asked the question “What made you de cide to come to Montreal?,” Catherine Barron explained that she has a desire to develop spiri tually. Others that came for this reason include Jamie King and Anne Forney. David Harris ex pressed that his goal while here at Montreal is “to grow closer to the Lord.” Overall, Montreal has an awesome group of new students. I believe they are all going to contribute something to this college with their presence. On behalf of all the continuing stu dents, we welcome you to be- come part of the MAC family. Changes in the Cafeteria By Mark Bolick If you are in the habit of frequenting the school cafeteria this year, then perhaps you may have noticed a few differences. The looks, the equipment, and possibly even the fo^. What is causing all this? The main dif ference in the food service this year is the supplier. Since 1978, Montreat-An derson has been supplied by Epi cure Food Services. Over the summer. Epicure merged with another, larger food service cor poration known as ARA. With Epicure’s system changing hands, ARA picked up all of its accounts including Montreat- Anderson. ARA has instigated several minor buteffective changes, such as replacing the drink dispensers in the cafeteria. The uniforms for the cafeteria and snack bar staff are different this year also. According to Cafeteria Manager Jack Spencer, “In the past. Epi cure was big about putting their name on everything, but ARA gave us a free hand to design our own uniform.” The new staff is referred to as the Montreat- Anderson Dining Service, as denoted by their new uniforms. Beyond the mainly cosmetic changes ARA has brought about this year, the meats the cafeteria O^ou can't go home again. -Thomas WoCfe uses are vastly improved. Mon treat is receiving their meats from a new supplier and is buying the “highest quality,” Mr. Spencer states. ARA is also looking at remodeling and updating the cafeteria and possibly the snack bar area also. All these ideas are being discussed with administra tion. Improvements in the snack bar menu are also underway. Plans for preparing hand-tossed pizzas are going to be utilized. The snack bar would like to be able to compete with the local pizzarias. The hand-tossed piz zas should start in two to three weeks, as soon as the snack bar staff is properly trained to pre pare them. Extended hours for the snack bar are also ready to be implemented as soon as possible. The new hours would be 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.. and from 5 p.m. to 12 midnight
