CAMPUS NEWS 9{0‘MEC0MI‘H§ 1991-1992 Montreat-Anderson CollGge 1 Howerton Cafeteria by Donna Buggs This year the student activities committee along with advisor Tom Hilgers have planned excellent events for homecoming activities. H o m e - coming begins onWednesday, October 2, with a Pep Rally/ Picnic in the Bam at 5:00 p.m. This event is a Pre-Home coming get- together to which the en tire community of Mon treat is invited and will include the first view of the 1991-92 cheerleaders and an introduction of the volleyball and soccer teams. Friday, October 4, is the official opening of Homecoming. There will be a Traditional Squai'e Dance in the Barn at 8:00 p.m. Dean Wilson will call it and the Stoney Creek Boys will be providing music. Homecoming contin ues on Saturday, October 5, with a volleyball game at 1:00 p.m. followed by a (Pc^e Three, The Metheia soccer game at 2:00 p.m. During the soccer game, at halftime, the homecom ing court will be an nounced. The homecom ing dance will begin at 9:00 p.m. in the cafeteria, and the homecoming court, along with the queen and her maids, will be announced again. So, come and join in the festivities during the 1991 Homecoming of Montreat-Anderson. Youi' presence will make this homecoming a successful one. CHANGES IN THE COMPUTER by Keith Robinson As some may have heard or noticed, the Computer Science Depart ment here at Montreat- Anderson underwent some positive changes over the summer. At the end of last year, eight of the older, less up-to-date computers were sold from the lab. To replace them, the department purchased eight new, more advanced, faster computers. The new computers ai'e equipped with 80386processors (the second best available now,) two megabytes of Random-access memory, and VGA (video graphics adapter) color video dis plays. This was done in part to promote the merger of the -computer-science minor with the. business administration major. Another pai't of the reason for these changes was to keep up with the ever advancing-by-leaps-and- SCIENCE DEPARMENT bounds computer science industry. Also purchased last year was a Hewlett- Packai'd Laserjet printer, capable of producing pro fessional quality docu ments in seconds. A ma- j or product obtained by the department merely a couple of weeks ago was a scanner - a device that reads typed pages into word processor files. Several software packages were also pur chased. These include Windows Version 3.0. Windows presents an easy-to-use graphic envi ronment that can be used by several different appli cation including WordPer fect (a word processor) and Lotus (a spreadsheet.) An additional class was added to the computer science minor. Special Studies in computer sci ence is a course in which the student prepai-es a proposal to the department based on their major. Pete McDanel, profes sor of computer science has said, “I’m excited about the new computers and about this coming year.
