NC 28757-0708 (704)669-8011 The Home Boys By Kim Holt Staff Writer The Presbyterian Home For Children Min istry is off to a great start this year! The Kick-Off picnic was a wonderful success and most of the children at the Home have been provided with a Big Brother or Sister. Many renovations have recently been made to the Children's Home. Wren says he has seen a large turn-over in the staff in the year that he has been at the Home. A positive outlook for the future of the Home comes with the arrival of the new director. Bob Mahanes. I spoke with two resi dents of the Home for Children last week. Larry is a sports lover and hopes to one day go pro. He wants to go either to Clemson or UNC-A. Larry has been involved in the Big Brother/Big Sister Program for seven or eight years. Tommy Dembinsky, 15, from Peshtigo, Wis consin, has been in the Children's Home for only two weeks now. His hopes are to go to a uni versity in Florida and study Zoology. He en joys drama, band, snow skiing and dancing. Both Tommy and Larry are sophomores at Owen High School. Each of the kids at the Children's Home has his or her own individual personalitieand interests, and each is cared for by houseparents who main tain interest in their spiri tual well-being, as well as their physical and educa tional needs. Time at the Children's Home is divided for rec reation, chores, and stud ies. Rick Wren, housep- arent for the younger boys in Perry Hall, says there is a need now for dedicated tutors in the evenings for a couple of hours once or twice a week. He is also interested in students who will simply come over in the afternoon and be involved in recreation time with the kids. If you are interested in either tutoring, lead ing, or organizii^ a Bible Study Ministry Team, or simply going over some afternoon to play; contact Mark Tucker or JoAnna Knowles.
