Thanks Lady Cavs for a great season and all of your hard work and dedication. Terrific job! by Andrea Murrell As a spectator of many games last year, I found myself really “letting down my hair.” I enjoyed going to watch the men’s and women’s basketball games because I wanted to be one of many to show school spirit. I enjoyed the women’s basketball games more because I know a few of the girls very well. I viewed the games dif ferently because I knew the players on a personal ba sis. When you spend time with a team player you seem to get another way of looking at the game. The games are played with eveiy amount of en ergy that they can give and it certainly showed in many of the games I saw. It's not a matter of winning or los ing but how well the game is played. I’m very proud of both women’s and men’s bas ketball. I must say there is never a dull moment, at least when I’m around. We should really sup port these players. I’ve seen how hard they work and I know they would love for us to be out there rooting for them and showing oth ers how proud we are to have them play basketball. I wish the best to both teams. Do your best and God will do the rest. Men’s Basketball Victorious By Anita Bumgarner Sports Editor Our Montreat-Anderson Cavaliers men’s basketball team opened their season with an exciting 121-112 victory over Guilford Tech on November 5th. Anticipa tion filled the air as the game began which was to be very close throughout. Slam dunks dominated the first half and brought the huge crowd to their feet. At the half, Guilford Tech led 55- 50, courtesy of a three-point shot with two seconds left on the clock. The remainder of the game saw the score go back andforthbetween the teams, with hardly more than a one point difference. Our guys pulled ahead to stay with 5 minutes 42 seconds remain ing in the game, opening up a six point lead, 95-89. However, a rare four point play by Guilford Tech brought them within five at 108-103. But, the Cavaliers then kicked it into high gear and went on to a 121-112 victory. Outstanding offensive play was seen by all the members. Leading scorers were: Steve Holley-27 points; Rodney Scptt-20 points; Derrick Hicks-19 points; Audie Hicks-19 points; Brian Harmon-18 points. Our Cavaliers look to have a terrific season in front of them, so let’s keep up the fan support! Way to go guys!!!
