The correct answers and the winner will be printed in the Spotlight: Steve Barrett By Tara Paquette Staff Writer After playing soccer for 25 years, Steve Barrett has yet to lose his enthusiasm for soccer. Originally from England, Steve has played soccer all his life. The first organized team he played on was the Cub Scout team when he was about 7 years old. He continued to play throughout middle and high school. He graduated from high school at 16 years of age and then spent several years working until he was offered a full soccer scholar ship to Liberty University. In January of 1984, Steve arrived in the states to pursue a college educa tion. He spent the full four years at Liberty; it was here that he met his wife, Tina. After graduating from Lib erty, he attended Virginia Tech, for two additional years where he was awarded a masters degree in sports management. Steve Barrett did not re turn to England because “there are more opportuni ties in America” and also because he had “built foun dations” over here duringhis six years of education. Tina Barrett is from De troit, Michigan. She gradu ated from Liberty Univer sity with a degree in physi cal education. She is pres ently a full time mother to her young son, Austen, who was born April 11, 1991. This does not give her a lot of free time, but she is helping the yearbook staff with the production of the Agape. Steve has proved to be a great asset to Montreat. He is easy to work with and he interacts well with the stu dents. “It is a great opportu nity to begin coaching at a Christian school,” com mented Steve, “I’m happy here.”
