Lewis claims that modern students have difficulty with early English literature because they often misunderstand the early or original meaning of a word for its modern English de rivative. He says that "one of my aims is to facilitate, as regards certain words, a more accurate reading of old books; and there fore to encourage everyone to similar exploration of many other words." What follows in the book is a facile yet closely ar gued discussion of words like nature, sad, wit. free, and sense. The C.S. Lewis Society meets every month in the lounge of the Belk Campus Center. The read ing schedule for next year is; January 20 The Screwtaoe Let ters February 17 Christian Reflec tions March 16 Phantascs by George MacDonald April 20 A Grief Observed May 18 Letters to Children September 21 And God Came In by Lyle Dorset! 'Page O'i'de, The PlCetheia Observing Cont. from pg. 1 time: *It is Christinas time and many of us will be going cra/y trying to find that last minute item. Let us slop and observe what Christmas actu ally is and what it means. Let us ob.serve and lake part in the project of helping a family out for Christ mas. Each dorm has chosen to take on at least one family to help it through this Christmas. Howerton and Davis dorms had a stereotype that they wouldn't bother doing anything because they were manly. But it is not that, it is just recogniz ing that there are indeed TRUE people that need help. Let us all observe this and give as much as we possibly can. *Thc other item 1 think we should observe is the friendships around us here at good-old Montreat-Ander- son College. Many of us have made everlasting relationships that will live on in our memories forever. Everything may be really bad but you shall know that your friends are there for you. Observe these friend ships and before you leave to return home, stop and say thanks for the great friendship. Merry Christmas to all (Personal Note: I would like to take this brief opportunity to thank all the people that continue to support this editorial comment column. I thank all the people that continiiall\ support and contribute to this col umn via me. Thank you.) 25th Anniversary
