The Aletheia X %lontreat-Anderson College Friday, October 1,1993 Baseball Team Equals Competitors by Sean Anderson The crowd cheered as the runner came home. The baseball team played well during their fall season and look forward to the upcoming sping season. The baseball team travelled to North Greenville, Tennessee on September 28. As a result of the fall baseball league not allowing extra innings for ties, neither a win nor a loss was acquired. Freshman outfielder, Alan Arnold scored the Cavaliers' lone run, by freshman, second baseman Mitch Glenn's RBI. The team commented in general that they have a young team, but in time they feel they can be one of the best in their conference. The team plans to work hard both physically and mentally to be the best team that they can be. The baseball team is also looking forward to the alumni game coming up tomorrow at 2pm. This is a chance for alumni to play, as well astheleam. Thegoodnews is everybody gets to play and it is a good chance to evaluate each person's in dividual ability. Soccer Team Establish Winning Streak By Cara Weiss Good sportsmanship on the part of every player, gradually pulled the Soccer team together. Quent Johnson said, "I think this was the first time we comjdetely pulled together as a team." This teamwak has definitely proved to be a plus, because our soccct team achieved another victory at home this past Saturday. The Cavs won 4-1 against Bryan College fixxn Dayton, Tennessee. Three other key points con tributed to their success. These included good communication, ball control, and defense. The first goal was sccaed by Dave Jarema. Aki Suzuki scored the second, along with the final goal. Phil Lomac also added to the Lady Cavs Spike to Victory By Marcy Buckner The abused volleyball, hit over and over again, dove into its mark. The M-AC women's volleyball team was victorious over ttieir c^po- naits. The Cavs defeated Salem College, Monday night, September 27, at 6:30 pm on the home court in three out rrf three matches. The scares were 15-7,15-11, and 15-10. Stephanie Cone, a left outside hitter, madeeightkills. Setterand outside hitter,Christi Waddell, attained nine kills. Salem College is an all women's col lege of afproximately 350 students. Monday night was the first time M-AC had ever played against this school. Salem's record coming in was 1 and 4, and now stands at 1 and 5. The ccHitributing factor, accading to scoring. This second tri umph put Montreat on a two-game winning streak. Johnson concludes, "With these two wins, it will help with tough games coming up." Upcoming games against Lee and Wingate Colleges do appear to be challenging. The Wingate team, from Wingate, North Carolina, has an overall record this year of five wins, three losses, and one tie. Lee College in Cleveland, Tennessee, may also prove to be a difficult match. Ac cording to John Bratcher, Soccer coach, "Were 6 - 3." Their leading scorer is Rafat Quemsieh, who has seven goals and two assists. Sexuality Awareness Week Successful By Anna Shimaya Sex is beautiful and sex is harmful. These were two conflicting statements dis cussed during sexuality awareness week. Montreat-Anderson College Di rector of Counseling, and psychology pro fessor, Carmen Copenhaver, said, "This was very needed information for students to hear. There is a tendency for teens and Coach Darin Chaplain, was a great week of pactice. "Last Thursday, Friday, and Saturday were the best pactices we have had in a long time." As of September 27, the ladies' record was 4 and 9. This is a significant improvement over last year's record of two wins fw the seascai. The ladies play their hanecaming match tonight at 6:30 against Piedmont Bible College. Ethnic Diversity Club Strives for Unity college age people to feel that they are invulnerable. This is false! No matter what the age, there are consequences for making unwise choices. It's my desire to see the students at Montreat live healthy and full, abundant lives, especially lives that are hon oring to God." Student, Laura Calfee, remarked of the presentations," It was very educa tional, and I'm glad we've had it. Also, I've learned a lot from it, and I think everybody should know about all the diseases out there." Amy Harkleroad commented," I thought it was good. It lets people know that are sexually active about the diseases that they can contract from the things they are doing. It lets people become aware of ev erything. It's very good because it could help stop someone from making a mistake that could give them a disease." By Sean Anderson The ethnically diverse students on cam pus never really had a club, until now. The Ethnic Diversity Club just started this year. It is the first time that the school has ever had a club like this on campxis. It was fcamed to give ethnically diverse studaits a voice and to Ning about unity at Mcmtreat-Anderson College. It is pKJi to everybody, and does not discriminateagainstiace,gender,crreligion. The idea of division is not acceprted by tiiis club. Donna Buggs, President of the Qub, said, "We enforce unity, and feel that this crganizatiOTi is the only way to do it" The first meeting ever of this brandnewclubwasonSeptember7. TheEthnic Diversity Qub wants the club to remain steady. The officers of the club are as follows: Donna Buggs - President, Anna Shimaya - Vice- President, Daphne Cogdill - Secretary, and Aaron Gilchrist - Treasurer. The next meeting will be on October 6 at 7 pm. The Ethnic Diversity Student Asso ciation encourages ethnically diverse students to become a vital contributOT to campus life. It gives the Montreat - Anderson community an interest in mincxity's cultures and backgrounds. The EDSA is unique to Montreat - Andasem College, and is not affiliated with a large nationwide Mganizatkxi. Any member that is in the club can hold an office, but employees and teachers cannot run fOT office. The club can also impeach those officers that fail to perfam their duties well. EDSA's main purpose is to create equality on campus.
