The Aletheia, Page 2 New Dorm On Horizon For Montreat? By Shellie Bowser The soon-to-be-built Center for Christian Studies might not be the only new building on campus. A proposal for a new dormitory was presented to the Board of Trustees last week. Since Montreat’s dorms are used year-round by students, conference visi tors, and workers, it’s hard to renovate the existing dorms. The college can’t afford to close down one dorm for any certain amount of time. So a proposal has been made to constmct a new dorm on Lookout Road, up near Lookout Trail, on college property. At first, the new dorm would serve as living quarters for resident students while existing dorms are being reno vated. For example, one year, all the residents of Anderson would move up to the new dorm while Anderson gets renovated and updated. The next year, Davis’ residents would do the same, fol lowed by McGregor and Howerton. dents and upperclassmen. Freshman Second floor Anderson resident Elena Zamora emphasized, “It’s a good Buffie Baker stated. As long as they idea because Anderson sucks and it s have money in the budget, then it’s old. Editor’s thoughts Well, this is the last paper that I will be editing for the Alethia. This past year has been a really wonderful experience for me. I would really like to thank Dave Sperry for all of his help and patience. I have come to realize just how hard the college staff works. We are lucky to have such a great group of people work ing here. Over the last two semesters, my eyes have been opened to many things. Throughout the course of the year, many students have come to me expressing opinions and concerns about the school. I hadn’t realized how strongly students fee! about school issues until I became editor. In the beginning of the year, I ex pressed my desire to put an end to ru mors by printing the truth in the paper. Well, I have come to understand that we don't all have the same truth. Many sto ries that were printed were considered true by some while they were attacked by others. I can only hope that each of us recognizes the truth that we are called to live out in Christ’s name. I have heard many students express that they recognize Montreat as a Christ- centered education but, they do not feel that it is a Christ-centered institution. That is a problem. When students begin to fee! like just another number (see Shayla s editorial), sometng is not right. However, I would encourage stu dents to remember that we all sin and make mistakes. Students, professors, and yes, even administration. I have been a witness to some of the hard work and dedication that this school is mn on We are all God’s children and we need to encourage one another and pray for each other. At the same time, I would encour age the administration to be mindful that students are more aware of what goes on then they might recognize. We°the students, do hear rumors that have trick led down from higher up. We are aware that there are those who resign and cn, there are those who are “asked to re sign. My point is that questions and gos sip can only go ignored for so long ® fore people begin to draw their own con elusions, I think that there needs to more and better communication between The students and administration. Alethia means “truth”. Many have expressed their opinions in t year’s paper, I hope that in the future, the paper will be used by both students and administration to communicate tru 1 have tried very hard to do my in communicating the truth through o paper. 1 have never printed a story whichhalfofthesto17wastold.lt been very important to me that all ties involved in a story are interviewe and quoted. As mentioned, 1 have learned a lot. It has been a rea y wonderful experience to be a part of In Christ, Arianne Frain
