Grinder Switch rocks, but rocks with feeling, having its foundation in blues and rhythm and blues. Early recordings emd hits included “Honest to Goodness”, “Macon Tracks”, “Pulling Together”, “Redwing”, and just recently “Right on Time”, all on the Capricorn label. The band just completed recording an album at Quadrafonic Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, on the Robox label - it is scheduled for release this month. Stillwater is composed of seven musicians who play rock ’n roll and play it well. In addition to their first two albums on the Capricorn label, Stillwater is featured on two of the Charlie Daniels 'Volunteer Jam albums, and has appeared with Charlie Daniels on T. V. and in concert, as well as with leading neimes like the Atlanta Rhythm Section, The Allman Brothers and The Outlaws. Their single “Mind Bender” reached the top 10 in most of the South, and negotiations are under way with several major labels for a 1981 album release. The Winters Brothers, Dennis and Donnie, grew up with music - writing, playing and singing it. They were influenced by close friends Charlie Daniels emd Marty Robbins, and have toured and opened shows for them, as well as for the Marshall Tucker Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Willie Nelson, And Bob Segar, among others. Their debut album, on the ATCO label earned nationwide acceptance and included “Sang Her Love Songs”, which was recorded at the Volunteer Jams IE and IV albums. By Seli Groves CBS’s Big Eye blinked and presto, it’s time to update the cast lists again: Talented Ted Leplat (Andy) leaves “Guiding Light” soon now that his character’s being turned off. New beacons to come to “Light” include Greg Beecroft as Tony Reardon, Lee Lawson as Bea Reardon and William Roerick as Henry Chamberlain. Feature writer Joanne Douglas, whose silent scene in a recent segment of “GL” startled lots of her friends and readers, assures me she’s not about to do another — “unless, of course, I get a big offer!” ... But, still rumored to be on the receiving end of many an earnest offer is Daytime Emmy Award winner Jane Elliot (Ex- Tracy, “General Hospital”). Tales continue to be wag ged about when or if she’ll “Light” up our soap lives soon. As usual Jane continues to deny she’s returning to any soap in the foreseeable future ... “Search for Tomorrow’s” new Brian Emerson is played by Larry Joshua. Marcus Smythe plays Dane Taylor and Shaun Stevens is Zachary. Is GENIE FRANCIS getting Luke out of her hair? There's a snippity type on “GH” who says Genie Fran cis (Laura) may be getting a hair trim soon. Genie’s long locks are supposed to keep her sweet image safe. Any cutting remarks would have to come from the writers who may, indeed, consider a change in Laura’s image and, thereafter, a change in Laura’s relationship with Luke (Tony Geary). Off the record, we hear tell the Luke/Laura idyll is no longer the in thing with the teen audience it once was. Inside sources say give ex-“Somerset” star Gail Kobe, now the new producer of “Texas,” credit for putting the series back in the ratings saddle again. If it con tinues to clean up in its time slot, you could really call it a saddle-soap. It’s said Gail pulled off several courageous stunts no one else dared to do; like rework ing the storylines and making drastic cast changes — all of which proves that this “Texas” rose wasn’t yellow when it came to doing it the right way at last. “Love in the Afternoon,” the revue starring Emily McLaughlin and Doug Sheehan (Jessie & Joe, “GH”), Jed Allan (Dan, “Days of Our Lives”) and Doug David son (Paul, “Young & Restless”) is on tour. It makes a stopover in Hawaii the week of the 27th.
