Page 2 - THE FOOTHILLS VIEW - August 5, 1983 Expression, a local group from the Boiling Springs, Shelby, area presented a program of Contem porary music on Sunday Night. The group included Mr. Walker and Jan, Gloria and Shelia Blan ton. The group was enjoyed by a good number of people. On Sunday morning pro ceeding the sermon, a group made up of Nancy Lail, Dawn and Jill Ledbetter and Sherry Pearson performed a medley of songs. Wednesday night is family night with all the adult and Junior organizations of the Mis sion organizations meeting. Adult Vacation Bible School will begin August 8th, ending on August 12th. Each class will be from 7-9 o’clock except Wednes day night when it will end at 8:00 because of Adult Choir practice. All adults are urged to attend. Sympathy is entended to the families of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wacaster, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Ledbetter and Mr. and Mrs. Garland Humphries in the death of their Father and Father-in-law, Mr. Graham Weaver. Mrs. Clara Godfrey and Mrs. Verle Davis visited Mrs. Bertha Hammett on Sunday in Mary Black Hospital. Vernia Mae, Trubie, Alma Jolley and Mrs. Verdie Womack of Cliffside visited the Cherokee Indian Reservation on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Bratton spent Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Robbie Bratton in Gilkey. They spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Flowers and children in Hickory. David celebrated his birthday while there. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mosteller, Charlotte tmd Shan non of Gaffney were Tuesday supper guests of Mrs. Effie Mosteller. Paul McCraw of Winston- Salem visited Monday with Madison McCraw and sister. Mrs. Gazzie Harmon visited them on Tuesday. John Washburn Jr. and Mrs. SalUe Horn of Boiling Springs visited their cousin, Mrs. Broadus McGinnis on Saturday. Flint Hill News By Ruby C. Ledbetter Those in the hospital are Mr. Barney Blanton at Crawley Memorial Hospital and Mrs. Crawford Long, Cleveland Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Ladell Shields is at home after having been a patient at Mary Black Hospital in Spartanburg, S.C. Mrs. Mary Lail along with her 4 brothers and 3 sisters and their spouses gathered on Sunday at the home of a brother in Salisbury for a family get together. They met at the home of a brother, Mr. Lail. Mrs. Joan Hopkins , of Fort Valley, Georgia returned to her home after vacationing here with her family., Mrs. Rex Ledbetter and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Ledbetter and Mr. Lemuel Ledbetter and their families. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Pierce of Apex, N.C. arrived here on Friday for a long week-end with Rev. and Mrs. Ed. Sesson. On Saturday Mrs. Sessom and the Pierces’ spent the day at Lake Lure. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Blanton and family and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Blanton spent part of the week vacationing in the moun tains of western North Carolina and at Gatlinburg, Tenn. They returned home on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Preston spent part of the week vacation ing in Summerville, S.C. and visited with Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Bowen. Mr. and Mrs. Horace Moore went to Cheirlotte on Friday and visited with their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Morgan and her fami ly. On Saturday they returned to their home. Mrs. Ruby Peeler is a patient at Charlotte Memorial Hospital after undergoing Heart Surgery there. She is out of Coronary Care and cards can now be mail ed to her. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Vinesette attended the homecoming at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in upper Cleveland County. Several people from the area attended the reception honoring Mr. Ed. Clayton at Crest High School on Sunday. Mr. Clayton is retiring after some 40 years in education. He was formerly prin ciple at Boiling Springs High School before the consolidation. Pleasant Community News By Betty Blanton A group of friends and relatives gathered at the Bob Hamrick Home at Lake Houser on Wednesday for swimming, fishing, relaxing and eating homemade ice cream with cookies. The chocolate, peach and cherry vanilla ice cream was very refreshing on the hot sum mer day for Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hamrick, Mr. and Mrs. John Hamrick, Amy, Lance and Jonathan Hamrick, Mrs. R.T. Cromer, Frank Cromer, Roger, Brad and Chad Ivester, Mr. and Mrs. Ranny Blanton and the Hamricks. Cherokee and Gatlinburg, Tennessee were visited on Thursday by Frances and Frank Hamrick, Lois and Danny Splawn. On Saturday the Hamricks were supper guests of their daughter. Lib Roberts in Shelby. They were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Buren Hamrick on Sunday for another day in the mountains where they had a pic nic lunch and then visited Mrs. Lib Bradford in Gerton and were supper guests of her in the cool breezes of her spacious lawn. A trip to Cherry Hill, New Jersey was made by Ruth Dawson last week to visit her son, Stephen, his wife, Marsha, and their sons, Jason and Travis Putnam who have just recently moved from Lexington Park, Maryland to Cherry Hill. The Biltmore House Tour on Thursday was enjoyed by Madge Hamrick, Pattie, Chad and Brad Ivester. They report a very nice trip! A time for visiting and enjoy ing family members was on Thursday for Ida Simmons when she was a guest at the home of her sister, Pauline Yelton and visited with her brother, Dan McMurray and Mrs. McMurray of Murfreesboro, Tennessee at the Yelton home in Forest City. Angelia, Steve, Amber and Andy Goode vacationed last week at the camper of her mother, Nancy Poston on Lake Norman. They were joined on Sunday evening by her mother and Dr. Poston. While vacation ing the Goodes celebrated bir thdays and their wedding an niversary. They joined Mr. and Mrs. Randy Raynor and Jason of Shelby in Gaffney for a good evening Saturday. Then Amber Goode was the overnight guest of the Raynors and on Sunday she attended the birthday party for Lekisha Anthony in honor of her first birthday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Anthony in Boiling Springs. An Atlanta visit was made by William and Joyce Putnam to help their son, Jimmy and his wife, Jenny to get settled in their new residence there. Week-end guests of Susie Houser were her cousins, Sheri and Sharon Scruggs of Aiken, S.C. An eight day trip to Arizona and New Mexico was thoroughly enjoyed by Homer and Ruth Sarratt last week when they accomplished some tof their childhood dreams by visiting places they had always wanted to go. Mr. Grover Hawkins of the Haven N Hills Rest Home was a visitor in the community last week. He says he is still “doing fine”. The Shull Whitakers were Sunday lunch guests of the Joe Davisons of Shelby. Joe and “Lib” Hamrick along with Bob and Betty Adams are vacationing in the mountains. The lovely flowers in the church sanctuary on Sunday were given by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Headley in house of Ryan Matthew’s birthday. Evening worship service was led by ‘Signs” a group based in Watanga - Avery Counties who perform throughout the summer at campground, tourist attrac tions, parks, summer camps, community functions, and local churches. They present Christ through a variety of music designed to interact the whole family. The services were held at Lake Houser and were well at tended. Children’s Adventure will be held on Tuesday at Honeysuckle Park, Cliffside and Wednesday’s Kid Power will be held there also and a Youth Encounter Fellowship will be held on Satur day evening.
