Ida Sim mons gave the program on refugees and internationals with Betty Blanton closing the pro gram with prayer. Ever Whitaker presided over the meeting. Mary Jo Jolley presented the Prayer Calendar. Ruth Sarratt gave the Secretary’s report after which the group discussed projects to be done the month of January choosing to do canned goods for the needy to be brought to the church and discussed for a needy family when the occasion arises. Betsy McSwain taught a chapter from the W.M.U. Manual after which the group enjoyed a delightful time of refreshments and fellowship. The home of Terri Headley was the setting for Young Bap tist Women’s Meeting. Jan Houser gave a very interesting program and gave the call to prayer. Katie Hamrick presided over the meeting. A social period followed. “A backward look” was taken at the meeting of Sunshine Club on Wednesday morning when Betty Blanton reviewed the meetings, happenings, and tapes that the group have enjoyed for the past eight years. Mrs. Blan ton and Mrs. Ida Simmons were instrumental in organizing the club for senior adults. The group heard a very timely devotional given by Mrs. Mary Lee Dob bins. Mrs. Ethel Ray presided over the meeting. Mrs. Ida Sim mons read the names of the six teen members that have died in the past eight years and Garland Jolley played a tape of Mr. Karl Jordon, Sr. singing “The Holy City”. Rev. Ronald McSwain led the closing prayer. A delicious covered dish lunch was brought by those attending. Ever Whitaker and Mary Jo Jolley served as hostess for the meeting. Mrs. Cleo Wallace visited with her sister, Mrs. Irene Prit chard at the Edgewood Nursing Home in Spindale on Monday and took her to Spartanburg. Then on Tuesday her guests were Mrs. Charles Humphries and Mrs. Joe Dean Pritchard and La Wanda all of Cliffside. On Sunday Mrs. Wallace visited her grandson, Mike Greene. Friday guests of the Steve Goodes were Mr. and Mrs. Ron- ney Alexander and Christy. Then on Sunday Mrs. Goode at tended a Shower for Mrs. Joan Jones at the home of Mrs. Lavonda Shires in the Trinity Community. Visiting with their three aunts, Oaksie Toney, Ada McGinnis and Salena Humphries in the Shelby Convalescent Home on Sunday afternoon were Mrs. R.T. Cromer and Mrs. Bob Hamrick. We extend community sym pathy to Mr. Bobby Goode and family in the death of Mrs. Goode this week and to Mrs. Ida Simmons in the death of her un cle, Mr. Hatcher McGinnis of Shelby the latter part of last week. MATTHEW JAMES REASON will celebrate his first birthday on Monday. January 23. 1984. He is the son of Terry and Betsy Season of Boiling Springs. Grandparents are Mrs. James L. Season. Dr. Malcolm Tolbert, Bible Scholar, To TAlk What does the Bible teach about divorce, faith healing and speaking in tongues? Dr. Malcolm Tolbert, Bible scholar, pastor and author will answer these questions during the Monday, January 23 meeting of the Gardner-Webb College Lifelong Learners group. The seminar will be held in the college’s Dover Chapel from 2 until 5:30 p.m. and is open to members of the ministerial group at no cost. Non-members may participate for a registration fee of $5. Tolbert, who is a professor of the New Testament at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, is current ly writing a book entitled “Tough Questions - Straight Answers” in which he deals with the teachings of the Bible and their application to modern-day situations. A native of Louisiana, Tolbert is a graduate of Louisiana Col lege and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, where he earned a doctorate of theology. He ha.> served churches in Louisiana and Georgia, and has taught Bible and New Testa ment courses at Equatorial Brazilian Seminary and the New Orleans Theological Seminary. The Crest View Garden Club met with Mrs. Lara Mae Scruggs Wednesday morning. Mrs. Mary Hewitt was co hostess. Mrs. Bonnie Price gave a program on plants. Mr. and Mrs. Bobbie Wall of Forest City and Joel Holder of Gaffney, S.C. were Sunday din ner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gale Guffey. Mrs. N.P. Guffey and Mrs. Gale Guffey attended dedication service Sunday afternoon at Limestone Baptist Church in Gaffney, S.C. Rev. James Holder is pastor there. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Hamrick visited Rev. and Mrs. M.D. Blanton in Forest City Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Cooke and son Jimmy of Shelby were Sunday night supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Faye Crowe. Mrs. Esther Harris is a patient in Cleveland Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Hal B. Greene and Jim my Scruggs were honored with a birthday dinner Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Scruggs. Mr. Earl Scruggs of Madison Tennessee spent their week with Mr. and Mrs. Horace Scruggs. Mrs. Bob Fry of Coverington, Ga. spent several days this week with her mother. Mrs. Nell Sur- rattt and Martha. Community sympathy is ex pressed to the family in the death of Mr. Joseph Bowen of the Mount Senior Community. Mr. Guy Holland and his daughter Mrs. Howard Milton of Forest City visited with Miss Etna Holland recently. Flint Hills NSDAR Hears Defense Talk The January meeting of the Flint HiUs Chapter, NSDAR was held Tuesday evening at the Fellowship Hall of the Boiling Springs United Methodist Church. Mrs. Beatrix Ramey, Vice Regent, presided, in the absence of Mrs. Linda Sweezy, Regent. Two minute reviews on Gene logical Records, and Lineage Research and Seimes Microfilm Center were given by Mrs. Ramey. Mrs. Hoyle Blalock in troduced Mrs. Forrest Kelly of Boiling Springs who gave a most impressive program entitled “Na tional Defense -The Duty of All Americans.” Hostesss were Mrs. Gordon Blalock, Mrs. Larry Gragg, Mrs. John L. McSwain, and Mrs. lifus Lamb. Mrs. Austin Anthony, Mrs. Brooks Piercy and Mrs. Chearles J. Stockton were elected to serve as a nominating committee for next year.
