10 THE CADUCEUS. SINEWS AND SCIENCE JOSEPH LAWLER, WENDELL ROBERTS, J. K. DALKTJIST. HOSPITAL TRIUMPHS OVER MECHANICS IN BASE BALL PLAN FIELD DAY. BASEBALL. triumphed over the picked team of the Rotor Me chanics by the decisive score of 5 to 18 r was a pretty battle until the first of the seventh, when the swatfest started. Roberts pitched a masterful game. with the bases full. Garrigus pitched a god game for seven Innings for the visitors. A second gaifle will be played be tween these teams at the Headquarters field, on Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock. FLEA WEIGHTS. Tentative plans have been started for holding a base hospital field day at the fair grounds, near Liberty Park. Camp Y. M. C. A. Physical Director Bergman has been in conference with Captain Thomas S. Crowe and Top- Sergenat Patrick J. Dempsey in re gard to the matter. Both detached offi cers heartily support the plan. Bergman has offered, to arrange a field and track meet with some camp organizations as a part of the celebra tion. The events would Include sprints, a series of relay races, the jumps, a base ball throw and a couple weight events. A base ball game and possibly a volley ball game would complete what promises_to be a most spectacular entertainment. The latest boxing match to be pro moted for the time when the manly art is given in thorough try out at the oase hospital is a bout between Pri- vates Clarence Cramer and Fred Pur cell. Botu of the light weights seem anxious for the fray and a lively con test is anticipated. Privates Torrello and Donovan are both training for their battle,, which seems a surety and the feature num ber of the opening night of the fistic sport. BASE HOSPITAL WINS. The Hospital team defeated the team representing the Medical Sup- ply Depot on Wednesday by the score of 7 to 3. The game was very inter esting and close until the seventh in ning when the heavy artillery of the hospital team opened fire on Jons, the opposing pitcher, and greeted him with an avalanche of smashing bin- . score beyond reach of the supply boys. McRea and Hoblitzel, third and short respectively, were kept busy handling the drives of the hospital team and handled themselves crdibly. Hughes,’ Pets and Cundiff's War riors held thei^. first combat Sunday afternoon and much to the amuse- “ Sergeant Hughes, his team grabbed ok a hard-earned victory The score was 6 to 5 and was bitterlv fought until the end of the ninth Se^ geant Cundiff’s offerings were clout ed to all corners of the lot, and he now is convinced that his pitching days are over. We will admit he was good once, but now. Oh me. Oh my. THREE FAST BOUTS. The third boxing show of the med ical Supply Depot was held Monday evening in the enlisted men’s bar racks. The main bout between Collins and Grazer was a hummer. It was nip and tuck all the while. The second bout, supposedly a grudge fight, proved to be a massacre in the first two rounds. “North Caro lina’’ Hayes pounded “h'ritz” Reilly all around the ring. But “Fritz” came back in the third with so much whim” and pep that the best it could be called was a good draw. The opening bout between heavy weights, “Hungry” Hungerford and Expendable” Davidson, was an even tug from start to finish. Both boys fell short of wind and both blame it on cigarettes. After the scheduled bouts, “Goody' Rosenshire and “Pat” Singer gave a very interesting and instructive exhi bition of sparring and clever foot work. ANOTHER ONE. ^Izests Hash Slingers and Chas. Kurtzs Dough Wrestlers met in the first game of their series on Thursday night. It resulted in an overwhelming victorj for Kurtz’s outfit. The score was 22 to 10, which indicates plenty of action. BASEBALL BREITIES. Baseball surely js booming, and we have Captain Crowe and First Ser geant Dempsey’s hearty co-operation in our present drive. Joe Ldwlor, the ex-leaguer, is round- Ing into fine shape. His aim was ba 1, but it has now reached its old form _ Did you notice Old Man (Sergeant hYst-class, excuse me) Sorenson tear ing around the bases last Sunday? A lot of pep yet, for an old-timer. Amewcomer is noticed in Sergeant Boudreau of No. 54. That is, to our team. He formerly played with the regulars at Fort Oglethorpe. About the only thing that Sergeant Hughes can show for the victory oi his team on Sunday is a painful pair of sunburnt arms.. And they have taken him out of the game for some time. Poor little Ray. How about Corporal Nieol? H6 was the mainstay of the Ansonia high school while at school. An A-No.-l catcher, Joe, what dp you say? Base Hospital: AB R HPQli .
