Ottoway Theatre Presents Win. S. HART in Wolves of the Trail on TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY THE CADUCEUS. .LIKE GENERAL STORE Charlotte Hardware Company 30 East Trade St. WHOLESALE and RETAIL HARDWARE AND SPORTING GOODS Phones 1505-1506 QUARTERMASTER MEN PUT OUT 5,000 PAIR OF SOCKS THIS YEAR. Pew persons know the trials and tribulations of the unassuming and modest quartermaster personnel. At the outset, it must be known that the war department has given over to the Quartermaster Corps all duties not ex pressly assigned to some other branch of the war department. So, for exam ple, when new troubles come up, this department gratuitously and very kindly introduces said maledictions to the Q. M, Corps. Witness our con nection with the Fire Department, and the .extreme pleasure it affords the quartermaster, as Fire Deputy, to do 100 yards in 11 seconds fiat in a lire drill. The Quartermaster Department is in truth a large general store. The articles of clothing and equipment it handles range from -laces, 'shoe” to , tents, pyramidal.” Some persons might innocently suspect that it is also a matrimonial agency, if they should see on the property account an item of housewives. To give an idea of the amount ot supplies passing over the. counter iit the Q. M. warehouse, the. following figures are submitted. This is the out put for the base hospital so far this year: 5.000 pairs socks. 3,400 pairs breeches. 3,300 suits underwear. 2.000 pairs shoes. l.GOO pairs leggins. 1.000 hats. Monday is issue and exchange day, and the quartermaster forceh as its hands full taking care of the never- ending procession of men coming in lor supplies and to exchange misfitting or worn-out clothing. Long before the warehouse is opened on Monday, there is a line of medical men outside the building, as if it for a championshi]) series baseball game. v —liy Sergeant J. Rpsenber.g. HOW ABOUT USi 1 like to read the .‘-Cadiiceus” And its jokes are good enough. But about the “Ethan Allen bunch” I would like to call their bluff. We have labored through the winter, And were bossed by these young men; I will say they did their job we'I— B'lit where do we come in Of course we’s only conscripts, But we’ve done our little bit, And when it cornea to write-ups Why can’t they mention n? I hadn’t thought of bragging Nor of writing up a word. But when I read those lofty lines I had my feelings stirred. NoV when you look this over .Just think of the “Devens hunch,” And if you’re as wise as l think you are You’ll surely take a “hunch.” ■ —R. a B. 13 ©tortg park AND Kodak Finishing Shop 24-HOUR SERVICE First-class Portraits Liberty Park Drug Store Building H.
