f 26 SAYS “GOOD-BYE” TOBACCO NOW ISSUE. Arrangements have been made to malte tobacco a part of the ration is sue to the expeditionary forces. From now on there will be issued to every American fighter abroad four-tenths of an ounce of smoking tobacco a day and ton cigarette papers. THE CADUCEUS. MAYBE YOU KNOW “DAD” HAS RETIRED FROM SELL ING PAPERS, “Dad” has retired from the business of selling newspapers at the base hos pital. “Dad,” who was a Civil war vet eran, felt that he was growing a bit oM for the trade. He will indeed be missed by the hospital personnel. When The Caduceus editor reached his down-town ofiice on Friday morn ing he found this farewell note from the venerable paper salesman: “Sir: “Let me return my thanks for the kind patronage bestowed upon me by the soidiers of the base hospital. “Upon my retiring from the carry ing of the morning paper in your midst you will no longer hear that fa miliar voice of ‘Morning pepper.’ “To the officers, men, nurses and ali I bid God-speed in the good work in which you are engaged and may a Kind providence be with you all until vic tory shall perch ut)on your banners in the foreign field of war, then you will Know what honor a^d glory really are. “Again I bid you adieu. ‘DAD.' “605 East Seventh St, Charlotte, iM. This is reputed to be the quick est erection work of a like nature ever done for the government All the barracks are connected with the main hospital by means of cov ered corridors of which there are 2250 feet. These are large wide board walks, are marked by double windows every 20 feet placed alternately so as to afford plenty of light and are lined with asbestos boarding to make them comparatively water and fireproof. Each barracks is 156 feet by 24 feet of floor space for each floor and containing four wards and baths and the necessary offices. All wards are exceptionally well ventilated by means of enclosed vents running di rect to the roof. We all have occasion to feel just ly, proud of this new feature that has been added to our beautiful hospital and we'-trust that the general opening of the new barracks will take place shortly.
