PROCESSION OF CHANGES IN “Y”
SECRETARIES.
Owing to the temporary depletion of
the foi'ces in Camp Greene and con
centration in other adjacent camps,
several of our best Y. M. C. A. work
ers have recently been transferred to
other fields. Dr. Thompson, who has
endeared himself to all who have
known him as camp religious secre
tary, left Monday for Camp Jackson.
Dr. J. w. Gaines of the faculty of
Richmond College, and who has been
with us for special religious work, has
gone to Camp Sevier. Dr. Gaines is a
noted lecturer and educator and has
pven the camp a decided uplift by hi.s
helpful messages. His visits to “Y”
2S2 have always been appreciated.
Phpical Director McReery of Base
Ho.spital \ ” has gone to his home in
iNew Haven, Conn., preparatory to
joining the army. McReery has made
repeated efforts to break in and is
■rearin to go.” He has now succeed
ed and will be heard from. He was
one of the most popular fellows that
has been amongst us. He accompanied
a troop train to the north.
To succeed Mr. McReery as physi
cal secretary we thought we had made
a rare find in Harry Molesworth, who
for twelve years has been manager of
the Birmingham ball team. But
scarcely had he "lit” when he received
orders to move on to Camp Wads
worth, where they were calling for a
strong man.
LOSE FATHER BETHEL,
The Catholic members of the base
hospiteil will learn with deep regret of
the transfer of Rev. Father Bethel to
Camp Jackson, Columbia, S. C. For
the past two months that Father Beth
el has acted in the capacity of chap
lain he has made many friends and
was beloved by ail who knew him,
Catholic and non-Catholic alike. He
possessed a quiet and loving disposi
tion and one of his qualifications was
his wonderful ability to' speak, his ser-
moms being always pleasing as well
as educational to his listeners. We
wish to extend our thanks to Father
Bethel for his faithful efforts while
stationed here and we also wish to
thank the K. of C. for liaving made it
possible for Father Bethel to be our
spiritual guidance during the last two

NEW PICTURE MACHINE.
A brand new moving picture ma
chine of the very latest type has been
installed in the K. of C. building at
the Base Hospital, and movies will
be shown every week in the future.
It has not yet been decided which
day it will be but probably on Thurs
day night. There will also be vaude
ville every Friday night. Last night
the moving picture machine was used
for the first time in connection with
the vaudeville.
STUNT NIGHT.
CORNWELL TRANSFERRED.
Mr. Cornwell has been transferred
Hospital “Y” from Build-
religious sec
retary. Mr. Cornwell is a well equip
ped worker and a man of deep piety.
A cordial welcome awaits him at his
new post. Here his past success will
be duplicated.
The “stunt” night was in charge of
Sergeant Kerschenblatt, who sang nu
merous jiopular songs in his own in
imitable manner. His versatility was
as remarkable as his ability. Numer
ous selections were made from the
audience and Sergeant Kerschenblatt
sang them all “right off the hat,” We
expect to be favored by him again
soon.

REAL VAUDEVILLE.
Secretary “Billy” Cloonan wishes to
announce that there will be real
vaudeville at K. of C. building No I
afternoon. The acts
will be taken from Keith’s circuit and
are sure to please.
MEASURING A LIFE.
On Friday evening Dr. Gaines gave
a fine lecture on “Measuring a Life.”
He showed that not by length of days,
nor by achievement, but by a life of
unselfish love was a life to be meas
ured. When we come to the end and
inventory our life it will be only the
unselfish acts that will furnish glad
dening reflections. Sunday morning.
Rev. Daniel Iverson, the Southern
Presbyterian camp pastor, had charge
ot the service and preached a helpful
sermon on Christ Our Substitute. At
this service Mr. Bennett of Base Hos
pital No. 54 united with the Presby
terian church by profession of faith.
Sunday evening Dr. Gaines address
ed us on “The Things in Which True
Life Consists.” This was Dr. Gaines’
hnal message before leaving for Camp
Sevier.
VAUDEVILLE PROGRAM.
A capacity crowd of about three
hundred soldiers attended th© K. of
C. vaudeville offering at the base hos-
pital Friday evening".
The show was opened by Sergeant
Taylor in a tramp character special-
ty. Sergeant Taylor is an old-time
entertainer, having been for many
years with the Barnum and Bailey
circus. His act was one of the best
on the program, the boys liking par
ticularly his comedy songs, with an
injected laugh that carried across the
platform to the audience into a roar
of mirth. Next on the program was
Sergeant Nielson in a syncopated song
offering that went over in great
style.
Secretary “Billy” Cloonan was a
whole show in himself in a series of
character make-ups, some of which
he has used with success in his time
on the vaudeville circuits ot the coun
try. His act was well received and
he was called back several times be
fore he was finally able to say a final
good-bye to the crowd.
Frank Tronolone, pianist, well
known to the boys at Camp Greene,
rendered several of his own composi
tions with success and also played
throughout the entire performance.
Joseph Gilfoyle, former actor, enter
tained with some new stories of camp
life, which took well with the boys.
Some of his jokings were purely local
and these added even more spice to
what would have been a peppery pro
gram anyway.
Billy Henry put across some origi
nal comedy stuff that went well and
the show was closed by the Darktown
Follies, a colored gathering that es
sayed some original steps and songs.
This act was run off with a great deal
of ginger and the youngsters got a
big hand at the close.
ALL WELCOME.
We wish to announce, especially for
the benefit of the new men who are
attached to Base Hospital No. 54, that
the K. of C. hall is supplied with a
piano which may be detached and used
as an ordinary piano, good comfortable
places to write letters, and good read
ing matter available at all times. Ev
ery Friday evening an entertainment
of some sort is given and which up
to this time has proved a great suc
cess.
SOON BE HERE.
The new pool table which was or
dered some time ago is on its way.
It has been shipped by freight via the
Southern Railivay, thus accounting for
the delay.
