.M' ‘ V h RED CROSS MEN MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING RE QUIREMENTS. In response to queries from several ot'the Red Cross divisions regarding the policy of the national organiza tion with respect to the employment of men within the draft age, the act ing general manager has issued the statement that follows: “Our policy in respect to fenrolling such men in foreign service is as fol lows: They are not accepted unless they have been placed in class 5, sec tion G, because of physical disaoility, and, furthermore, unless the disability is visual. This removes all question as to whether the representatives of the Red Cross in foreign service should be in the army, as at a glance it can be seen that they would not be qualified for such service. The same policy applies in respect to men en rolled for service in camps and can tonments in this country. “Our policy in respect to enrolling such men at Division Headquarters is as follows; The Red Cross has never asked for the exemption of any one and does not expect to do so. There fore any man so enrolled at Division Headquarters is nevertheless in all respects subject to the draft. In re spect, however, to those men who have been placed in class 4, because of dependency, or placed in class _ 5 G, because of physical disajility qs above set forth, and are not there fore available for military service, but who must under the recent ruling of the Provost Marshal General be engaged in some useful work, our po sition is tha such men so employed ir important positions with the Red Cross are within the Provost Mar shal’s ruling and should be retained in Red Cross service.” Private First Class Bein has been removed from fatigue duty to take charge of the hospital incinerator. THE CADUCEUS. QUARTERMASTER ODE TO SERGEANT ELROD. How sweet is love. But, "oh how bitter! To love a girl. And then not “gitter.” If you don’t feel just right. If you don’t sleep at night. If you moan and sigh. If your throat is dry. If you can’t smoke or drink. If your grub tastes like ink. If your heart doesn’t heat. If you have cold feet. If your head is in a whirl— Why don’t you marry the girl? If two red lips were upturned to your own. With no one to gossip about it, Would you pray for endurance to let tl\em alone? Maybe you would but I doubt it. Breathes there a man with a soul so dead. Who never to himself has said “I’d like to break the Kaiser’s head." BY CORPORAIj E. O’MADLEY. WAS MODEL WARDMASTER. Ward D-5 is very quiet and sad this week since' it lost it’s genial wardmas- ter, Corporal George A. Rose, who left Monday morning to join the cleri cal forces in the Registrar’s office. We all miss our friend George but a’ e glad to note his advancement and expect and wish him all success in his new work. By CAPT. DePO'B, Ward D-5. We have an aviator in our midst. NEW LANGUAGE. A group of men about the tents were talking rapidly and inarticulately upon .some vital subject. Two men of the old detachment passed that way and paus ed to listen. When one of the passers- by had failed to make out the jargon he asked his firend—“What new lan guage is that?” “That’s Fifty-Pour.” YOUR PHOTOGRAPH for your friends prop erly done is what we give you, A visit to THE Rembrandt STUDIO Will Convince You! 27 S.
