C., which enlarges the ea pacity of this excellent institution to more than 2,000 beds, the U. S. ^^rmy authorities are merely continuing the extension of a policy of reorganizing the admirable adaptation of the cli mate of Western Carolina to hospital purposes. Months ago the magnificent new Kennilworth Inn at Asheville, nearing completion on a pattern o elaboration and elegance rarely belor, attempted-in the south, was taken over, and its beautiful plans capi completion. Recently opened it is t day one of the mdst palatial hospitals in the world. Only 44 miles away at Azalea, a hospital with _ 2,500 beds is nearing completion, while the TJ. army hospital at Waynesville, opene^ last winter, cares for several hundred soldiers and is making_ additions which double its capacity. Munson and Lieu tenant Cleveland left on Thursday evening for New York city where they will take a special course in mil itary surgery at Rockefeller Institute. The X-ray is now carried to the front-line trench for the benefit of wounded soldiers, so that no time mav be lost in ascertaining tire con dition of wounds. The Army, Medical Department has developed a mo^bile X-ray outfit, carried on a standara Army ambulance slightly modified. The outfit includes an X-ray table, a dark room, also a complete set ot apparatus for the localization of for eign bodies. Fully as expert work can be done with this mobile outfit as in any base hospital X-ray depart ment Its use in the field makes it possible for the surgeon at the from to send a complete report of a sol dier’s condition when a man is trans ferred to a hospital back of the lines.
