MEDICAL SUPPLY JOINS SUPPLY DET Corporal John Nicol, one of the oldest memhers of the Base Hospital personnel! hag been transformed to duty with the Medical Supply de tachment here. “Jack” came here from Ft. Ethan Allen, Vt., on Oct. 5th, 1917, as a pri vate, on Mar. 1st, 1918, he received his warrant as corporal and during his stay here he proved to 1)6 the “life" of Barracks No. 6, where he was quar tered. Right off the bat we offer an apol ogy to a certain person for a certain little item which appeared in a cer tain issue of the Caduceus about him. Innocent as it was he seems to have taken it to heart. Therefore, we hum bly remove our hat, bow low and beg his forgiveness, though we mention no names, and state not the cause for the offense. * * * Our distinguished Chief Veterina rian took the Captain’s horse out for a stroll on Tuesday evening. When he came to, he found two rear hoofs in delibly impressed on his person. Said C. V. has slept on his stomach and eaten standing up, since. Guy Hungerford has reduced his price on that “silk” shirt- -still no tak ers. Bill Schaffer (Bremer’s cousin from "VMheeling), has been transferred to the Field Supply Depot at Washington, D. C. Now watch George “break out.” It is rumored that Ralph Walters and Charles Nichols ate a meal at the mess hall last week. « « We now have among the “cue hall heads,” the following—“Bobby” Wal ly, Jerry Collins, Normie Stevens, “Uilips” Wilson, George Who’s next? Bremer. Lumberton, N. C., has at last been put on the map. Corporal Nicol can put you straight as to its status. * * iff The race still goes on with “Shor ty” Noble falling a little in the rear. ^ * The Base Hospital Property Officer, Bt. Albert G. Clark, is away on a leave of absence. In his absence, Lt. Charles F. Sharry is. handling the reins in fine style. D. M. BRILL. EARLY MORNING FIRE DRILLS. ' So willing are the occupants of Barracks Five to become efficient in fire drill that they are starting to hold them in the wee sma’ hours. Private Norton is held responsible for the movement. Sunday morning, while all were sleeping peacefully we were all awakened by Norton calling for the bugler to blow fire call. Due to the extraordinary efficiency of the men in barracks five they all got their clothes on in the prescribed two counts. When all set to attend and put out Pvt. Norton’s fire we learned that it was a false alarm. What Norton thought was a fire, was nothing but the light in front of the barracks. THE CADUCEUS. PULL TOGETHER “America Needs Us” is the appeal of Sergeant George A. Battaglia in a bit of patriotic verse, which is print ed this week in a Buffalo, N. Y., pa- ))er and which causes the editor of that paper to proclaim our comrade as the “poetic sergeant.” The poem follows: TWO MEN DISCHARGED. 13 YOU owe it to yourself to come and see our AMERICA NEEDS US. Oh, let me help America, she’s been so good to me. She’s also been good to the people far across the sea; But still some are not satisfied, she cannot please them all; She always gave them what she had no matter great or small. But some have turned against her in spite of what she’s done. Thinking that they’re going to have some grand old lovely fun. But when the time comes she will shine and show her colors rare. And smite with might and main the curs that have treated her unfair. She's been the friend of everyone and helped all those in need. And never turned anyone down who ■ ought to get a feed,. But all the good that she has done seems to be cast away. And let us hope that she will teach them a lesson some fine day. The time is coming sure when she will have to show them up. And tell them all with pride that they have spilled their loving cup. She’s going to tell them all the move they made is all in vain—• That the spirit of ’76 can be aroused once again. When she unfurls her banner rare, the old Red, White and Blue; Then Victory shall follow her with all that’s righteous and true. “Let all us be Americans, our country needs us now.” “Let us all volunteer to fight and she will show us how.” We must defend her, now is the time. Our mother sweet and fair; A mother’s love is great my friend, The love that you must share. Arouse with your bosom, hoys, that courage, vim and power. That men of old retained in them at the same critical hour.. We must stand by America with Old Glory by our side. And love her with our hearts and soul as siie has been our pride. But don’t forget, be loyal, do your duty on the field. And pray the Lord above us to defend us with His shield. PHOTOS Tone and Quality count!
