A Corporation is Made up of People Slowly, too slowly, perhaps, the unreasoning prejudice, fostered for selfish rea sons by demagogues, is giving way to a better understanding of them. The utilities corporation, such as the gas, railway and other service corporations, is essential because it is too big a proposition for an individual to undertake. But the corporation is merely composed of a number of individuals whose money collectively does what that of the individual cannot accomplish. It is as much to the interest of the corporation to treat its patrons justly, to give good service, to have its customers satisfied as it is for the individual merchant to have the good will of his trade. The only trouble is that there is a disposition to expect more of a corporation than of an individual, more tendency to find fault and to look upon the corporation with a certain degree of suspicion that is as unjust as it is unaccountable This state of public opinion so palpably exists that John Skelton Williams, Comptroller of the Currency, called attention to it in his annual report together with a plea for fair and unprejudiced treatment of them. Think it over when tempted to criticise.
