WOMEN IN WAR WORK. Today has been designated as “Wo men In War Work.” We thank the business organizations that announce their goods in The Ca- duceus for helping to render this ser vice’ to freedom’s cause. Many of our progressive friends asked to be allow ed to use their advertising space for boosting the loan. 'It shows well the spirit .of those selected by The Cadu- ceus as bhsiness associates. Their .sacrifice for the aid of democracy de serves consideration when we start out to spend money. It is in honor of the millions of wo men of the United States who are en gaged to crush tyranny. Notice will bo called to the 700,000 women who are helping to put the Fourth Liberty Loan across. There are 700,000 women aiding in running our railroads. Hun dreds of thousands more are in the munition factories. There is an untold Army in the Red Cross, Y. W. C. A., Community Service 'and other war ac tivities. The women of America are bearing their share of the actual work of beat ing down the ambition of the Hun. Their influence in sending away the brave lads with a smile and in keep ing the home fires burning is to be considered even more. It is a force behind the bayonet thrust that Ger many cannot understand but before which her best warriors are retreat- GET THE FIGHTING VISION HEROES’ DAY. Our boys “Over There” have the fighting vision. They see beyond the crash and roar and din the dawning of a better day. They wallow in the mire and blood, heedless of every pain, the goal where Freedom lifts he,' torch in world wide triumph. They grapple and struggle and endure without a cry for principles that they feel in their hearts to be right and which bring the peace-time pictures of quiet homes and of labor free to toil for a wage of justice. Those visions of the lads, grown strong in the freshness of Liberty’s fairest realm ,have led them to victories that have startled the world. Those pictures, nourished in the souls of America’s warriors, have caused them' to crush the spirit of Prussia’s tried guards, who were trained for years in the school of steel and discipline. Our boys “Over Here” bear the same unquenchable flame of freedom’s zeal. They work and train towards the day when they can carry the might of Columbia’s holy wrath to the last trench line of Autocracy. The surgeons who bring all the skill of their training ot the delicate efforts of the ward and operating room see that upon the care of their labor depends the strength of whole companies of fighters. Every orderly, every clerk, every man connected with the mess, works with the ardor of the vision of Freedom’s sure triumph over hate and the felndjsh ethics of the strong. America as a nation holds that vision of the spirit might ot justice and is martialling untold resources to raise, equip and feed Democracy’s hosts. The farm, the factory, the shop, the office, the store, the mart, are giving their best of men and supplies to carry the cause of truth to triumph. In the calender of war time holi days there comes one Holy Day which will be especially sacred to all pa triots. It is the nation wide keeping- of Hero day on tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 6. Governor T. W. Bickett, of North Carolina, proclaims the day in the fol lowing public statement :- That Sunday, October 6, be and it is hereby designated as Heroes’ Day, on which day all of our people shall as semble in their churches, Sunday Schools, and meetings houses, in cities and towns, in villages', hamlets, and at cross roads, and shall pay tribute and homage to the boys who have laid down their lives in the sacred cause of Liberty. Let this day be made mem orable and hallowed, and let the mem ory and spirit of the neighborhood boy dead on the field ot honor so move us that we shall withhold not of our sub stance in the cause for which he died. Let committees of patriotic men, wo men, and children sell these Liberty Bonds by the millions on that sacred occasion, while messages from stump and pulpit proclaim the purity ot our motives and the justness ot our cause. LOOK UPON THE THINGS OTHERS. OF Have YOU that fighting vision? Do you see beyond the shame of Belgium the cringing and supplicating host of hell hounds at bay? (Presbyterian Standard.) Do you see Justice lifting her scales over the world where Kaiser-fed minds went blood mad for a season and set to yoke and shackle all but those who bore the brute stamp of Teuton blood? Has your nerve tingled since America stepped into the line of nations which dared to face the tortures of Prussian frightfulness? Have you gloried in every fiery message which tells that the unconquer able spirit ot 1776 still lives and triumphs? Have you bended every effort to bring the vision of eternal justice to reality? Have you dug down to the pocket seam at every call for money aid? Have you scorned to buy a pikers share of Liberty Bonds and wagered your gold against heathenism until you felt the pinch? A valued subscriber and a most lib eral supporter of every cause, calls our attention to a rule of the Pood Commission that restrict sthe sup ply ot sugar to two pounds per per son per month, but does not allow any more when you have guests in your home. These guests are enti tled to their two pounds each, even when away from home and are using none, but it is only issued to them at home. If they fail to get their share, and use a part of the limited share of their host, he suffers. How strong is your vision? Your share in the Fourth Liberty Loan is your reply. In England it is said that it has become the custom for guests going to a home to take their sugar witn them. Such a rule would prove a blessing here.
