J. H. DOWNIE
TEND THE SICK
The entire force from every “Y
building in Camp Greene and the
headquarters’ staff has seen a D'lsy
time for the past week, both night
and day. While visiting the sick and
attending to their wants. The flu
epidemic has brought a double duty
upon the Red Triangle men and bat-
urday upon the return of Camp Gen
eral Secretary J. T. Mangum froni an
official visit to Atlanta he laid plans
for the visitation of the sick. Every
day since that time has seen the men
working among the wards of the hos
pital, in the clinics of the camp and :n
fact every place where a man could be
of any service including the quaraa-
tined section.
Here they distributed reading, mat
ter, writing material, pencils, stamps,
Testaments and in all their work keep
an accurate account of every man vis
ited. These daily visits are apprec.a-
ted by the men who can’t help them
selves very much and It helps break
the monotony of hospital life.

During the past week Mrs. Pirney

Liberty Park, where one of the old

condition. These quarters are only
temporary but very homelike and
will answer the purpose until the new
hostess house which the Y. W.
is building, can be completed. The
contractors have .the foundation and
framework on the way and are rush
ing the work through as rapidly as
possible.
QUARANTINED FOR
LIFE
MAKING IMPROVEMENTS.
Improvements are being made at
the Red Circle Club for colored sol
diers at 404 East Second street, which
will considerably extend the activities
of the club and enable the sub-commit-
tee of the War-Camp Community Ser
vice under the direction of which or
ganization the club is conducted, to
render a still greater service to the
colored soldiers.
The second floor of the old Saun
ders hotel, which has been converted
into a club, is prepared for sleeping
quarters where soldiers may be ac
commodated over night. The sun-par
lor on the front is to be used, for a
reading room, and the writing room on
the first floor has been enlarged. Mo
tion pictures twice weekly is one of
the greatest attractions at this club
where there are two excellent pool
tables and a game room equipped
with crochinole, checkers and other
indoor games.
The donation of a number of splen
did victrola records will add ma
terially to the pleasure of those sol
diers who enjoy “canned music."
ARE YOU HELPING WITH YOUR
BONDS.
OUT-DOOR MASS.
Masses, on last Sunday were cele
brated outside of both Number 1 and
2 buildings.
A large crowd of boys from Re
cruit Camp No. 4 and neighboring out
fits enjoyed seven good reels of com
edy moving piottures at Building No
2 on Monday evening.
A large musical entertainment will
be given at Building No. 2 on Thurs
day evening October 10, 1918. We
will be obliged by hearing from some
of the following numbers: Joseuh
Downie, K. of C. Secretary at the
Base Hospital, who is already famed
by his past performances as an enter
tainer at this camp; Secretary Mc
Grath who is running our friend Joe
for first honors as the most popular
secretary in camp. It is an utter im
possibility to list the programs, so
boys just be on the job and you will
get the treat of your lives. If you
happen to be so unlucky as to miss
it, why buy next week’s copy of The
Caduceus and read about it. Secre
tary McGrath will be in full chareg
of activities at building No. 2.
Secretaries Downie, O’Toole and
Stanziola have been kept pretty busy
at the Base Hospital since the in
fluenza broke out in this camp, esepe-
cially Secretary Downie, who deserves
great credit for his untiring efforts
for the past week. Secretary Stan
ziola has been taking care of the boys
by seeing that they are supplied with
writing paper, etc., while our friend
O’Toole has been doing a great deal
of writing for the boys to their moth
ers, sisters anad sweethearts.
TO HAVE PROGRAM.
The Y. M. C. A. will have a com
plete program all over the camp just
as soon as the quarantine is lit
and have some special treats in store
for the boys. At some of the build
ings the movie shows have been held
outdoors where the men were scatter
ed about on benches.
About the first thing that Secretary
Rutland did when he arrived at Game
Greene from Miami, Fla., last Satur
day was to contract the “flu” and he
was taken to the hospital at mid
night that night and yesterday was
dismissed in good shape. His home
is at Auburn, Ala.

permit, for the amusement of the
Nurses at the Camp Greene Base Hos

know Joe as well as we think we do,
then ladies and gentlemen prepare for
one glorious evening of laughter.

eral Secretary of the Knights of Co
lumbus at this camp. He replaced
Mr. John Kehoe, who left for New
York some days ago to be at the bed
side of a sister who is very ill. Mr
Kehoe will not return to Camp
Greene, but will continue on to Ashe
ville, N. C., to take charge of the
Activities at the new Reconstruction
Hospital which is located there. We
