i: THE CADUCEUS MOTHER. was some one in the world who cared, he began to be more cheerful and made some friends and is now one of the 'brightest patients in the hos pital. Here is a man who was on the high road to become a liability rather than an asset to the army, changed to such and extent that he is now a good soldier, all thru the kindness of one who is taking the place of a thousand mothers. This is only one of hundreds of stories that could be told of that dear lady who is ever too tired or too weak to bear a burden or hand out some good advice. Mother! Would that the world were full of your stamp; your reward awaits you not here below but up there where all good deeds are recorded. Arrivals:—Sandy, Patterson, Mill- man, Mesanko, Mays, Scheinblatt, Hayden, McSween, Newman, Pasul- key. Sacra, Fisher, Richards, Boyd, Ranhof, Jones, Bohannon, Jeffoos», and O’Mara. (By Sergt. Ray J. Derwort) One of the newly arrived patients was looking the place over and when asked what he thought of it replied. Well I reckon as how this is a pretty nice place, but does that thar woman they call “Mother” come over here? When told that she was a regular vis itor here his face lighted up with the pleasure he felt and he then told me a story of an aged and infirm mother that he was forced to leave when call ed by the draft. This being his first time away from home and not under standing human nature very well had made but few friends. He was de spondent and his outlook on life was dull or as he put it “didn’t care if school kept or not,” then to add to an already hard lot he was taken sick and was sent to the Bose Hospital for treatment. While a patient of one of the wards, he was, fortunate enough to make the acquaintance of Miss An nie Grier, better known to us of the hospital as “Mother.” The first time she stopped at his cot and said a few cheery words on her regular round of the wards he hardly noticed it but when she came day after day always bringing sunshine into the ward, he began to look forward to the time when she would come with her pleas ant smile and maybe a “goodie” of some kind. The contractors, The Toomey Plumbing and Heating Company of Charlotte already have a large force of men on the job and the work is pro gressing nicely. T. W. Starbuck is su pervising the installation but could not say with any degree of certainty when the work would be completed as the material is slow in arriving. Whether the six large barracks build ings will be heated from a central plant or whether each building will have an individual plant has as yet not been decided ANOTHER DEPTH BOMB NEW GENERAL SECRETARY.
