THE CADUCEUS
17
THE OLD FELLOW’S “BIT.”
THE OLD SHOTGUN STILL DOES BUSINESS
Womea have nursed and women have
knit
Since ever the war began;
Each fellow who’s tit is doing his bit,
As only a patriot can;
But what is the bit that’s officially fit
For a loyal and elderly man?
He may practice economy, stint and
save, ,.
And say an occasional prayer,
He may polish his boots and learn
to shave
And barber his scanty hair;
His flesh may be weak, but his heart is
brave,
And he longs to be “over there.”
He may practice economy, stint and
save,
To lessen the laundry bill.
The cut of his clothes may .surely
speak
Of am amateur tailor’s skill;
But he longs, though he looks like a
rare antique.
To enter the ranks and drill.
MAY MAKE RECORD.
REAPS HARVEST.
Oh, it’s rough on a loyal and elderly
guy,
To twiddle his elderly thumbs.
To furtively wipe an elderly eye
Of a tear that readily comes.
As, heads held high, the boys sweep
by
To the sound of the fifes and drums.
Montrtal Star.
The first week of the campaign for
Association Men, the International T.
M. C. A. magazine netted 1,002 sub
scriptions and it is believed that Camp
Greene will have the highest percent
age of any camp in the southeastern
department. Because of the visit of
the “flu” the special price of half rate
to soldiers has been extended another
week so that all who desire may take
advantage of the magazine offer
After a very successful farming
season Private First Class James
Wright is again on duty with the de
tachment at the hospital. He states
that the crops have been more than
ordinarily fruitful this year, especial
ly in his state, that of Maine, where
the potatoes and corn have flourish
ed with a vigor destined to win the
war.
