Rossiter of Winston-Salem, who is a new religious work director, and G. '0. Mcllwain of Trimble, Tenn., who will be associate religious work director., This makes three religious work directors at the hospital and they are always visiting the wards and willing at any time to be of service to the men in the hos pital. HOLD PARTIES. Both Knights of Columbus Build ings held Halloween Parties on Thurs day evening in honor of the famous old legend. There were old fashioned games such as ducking for apples stocking fights, and the numerous other games which make Halloween famous. Activities were under the di rection of Secretary De Haven at building No. 1 and Secretary Webb at building No. 2. Just as soon as the quarantine is lifted, the Knights of Columbus prom ise some real live times in this camp. In fact, every night there will be dif- • ferent kinds of stunts. Secretary De Haven, in charge of building No. 1, which will be the home of indoor athletics this winter, announces that the following events are to be scheduled: Basket-Ball, twice a week, movies twice a week, dancing once a week, etc. We are waiting to hear from building No. 2 in regard to their program. , Bight new secretaries were added last week to the camp working staff of the Y. Editor of The Caduceus: I am located in the land of the sky surrounded by the Blue Ridge moun tain ranges and expect soon to com mence active welfare work at this place. Our building will be completed this week and everything will be in read iness for a grand opening as soon as the quarantine is lifted. We are re ceiving patients daily from all camps in the States and boys "from over there are commencing to pour in, too, a great many of them who were gass ed in France last summer. The K. of C.’s have erected a build ing at this post which will no doubt be in use for many years after the war. It is the finest building of its kind in the south; is heated by steam and is equipped in an up-to-date fash ion all the way through; sealed in side with beaver-board which lends a very favorable decoration to the in terior of the building. We are about to begin circulating a camp paper here and I have lauded The Caduceus very highly. I want to take this opportunity to express my appreciation and thanks for the ex- • cellent and hearty co-oeration re ceived while at the base hospital in Camp Greene. Wishing you success and health and with best regards to everybody. Very sincerely, JOE DOWNIE, Former K. of C. Secretary at Base INDOOR GAMES. Plans are being made to turn in terior of Knights of Columbus build ing No. 1 into a basket-ball court, for the fall and winter season. This sport is considered one of the best indoor athletic games that can be played, and it is earnestly hoped and desired that every unit in this camp will be represented by a good sub stantial team. Now is the time for you basket-ball enthusiasts to get on the job, especially the selected cap tains. to pick out your material. The Knights of Columbus Commit tee on War Activities will offer a suit able prize to .the winner of the series. The series of games to be played will be under the direct supervision of Melvin W. Sheppard, Camp Athletic Director, assisted by Secretary Edward J. O’Toole, of the Knights of ' Columbus. Captains of all represented teams will get in touch immediately with Secretary O’Toole, K. of C. building No. 1, for any further information in reference to entries, dates of games, etc. Soldiers, watch these columns for further announcements. Mr. William C. Ryan, a discharged soldier and formerly of Recruit Camp 4 is now located at Building No. 1. Information has been received to the effect that Secretary Ryan will pro ceed to Camp Wadsworth, Spartan burg, S. C., to take up his new duties as a Knights of Columbus Secretary. Here’s luck to Bill, for if he is as well liked at Whdsworth as he was in this camp, there is no doubt that he will make a success of the work the Ac tivity have in store for him. WANTED KAISER. “Are you willing to go across and whip the Germans?’’ one of the negro recruits at the camp was asked one day last week. “Ah don’t know bout dat, boss!” answered the colored boy. “Oh thought yoh jes’ wanted me to get the kaiser. Bin a hankerin’ to fix that ole rat face, but does vuh mean yuh want me to lick da whole gang?” The young negro’s home board told him they were going to send him to Europe to “get the kaiser,” and he went to camp with this idea. “Ah think Ah can git away with rat face all right,” he explained, “but this German army done have a powh- ful lot of men in -it, I hears.” DOES BIG WORK. The tvnights of Columblis, through their representative Ralph McDer mott, have done some great work at the Base and Evacuation Hospitals. There has been a wholesale distribu tion of fruit, candies, cigarettes, writ ing paper, and envelopes during the past week among the influenza pati ents. The secretaries are willing to do all their power to assist the boys in any way and request that if there is anything than can possibly be done to ease their suffering, that they get in touch with the Base Hopital secre tary immediately, who will see that their wants are carried out. Secretary Joseph Downie, formerly of the Base Hospital secretarial staff, is now located at the Reconstruction Hospital at Azalia, N. C., applying the policies of the Knights of Columbus to a great extent. There is an op portunity to perform some great work among the wounded soldiers and we think Joe will make good. Rev. Martin, religious secretary for Base Hospital Y has returned from a ten day furlough spent at Louisville and other points visiting relatives and friends. Rev. Martin has been in the service of the Y six months at Camp Greene. Secretary Jim McGrath left yester day evening for his home in Boston, Mass., to attend the funeral of his brother-in-law, who died of influenza, and also to be at the bed-side of a sis ter who is suffering from the same malady.
