HAVE MADE GLORIOUS HISTORY OMRADES of tlie Silver Chevron, We-have made glorious history this year! The Little Old United States whose men couldn’t cross the seas and who couldn’t fight If they did—has sent an endless column of Crusaders “Over There” where the gallant English were fighting with their backs to the wall and the noble French were falling back on Paris. And at Chateau- Thlerry the “Yanks” checked the wave of retreat, and the Sun of Victory has shone on “Old Glory” since, even as we advanced through the gloomy forest of the Argonne. I say “we” for tho’ not riding in the band wagon, we were in the column, trained and ready, and our push carried the leaders over to a final- touch-down. Tyranny and Autocracy have gone from the world forever! And now we are going Home better men, physically and mentally than when Uncle Sam called us to the Colors. Let us forget the little petty annoyances of camp life, the pin pricks of some inexperienced officers, and the times we were Kitchen Police. Let us thank Almighty God we have the good fortune' to belong to such a Country and such a Nation! And now for the few days we will still be here, let us so conduct our selves as to show the world there is no let-up in the morale of the men of Camp Greene, worthy members of the Army of Freedom. With admiration for the fine qualities of each of you as displayed in camp and town, I wish you a Merry Christmas and the Happiest of New Years. A. C. Macomb Camp Greene, N. C.; Colonel, Cavalry, Commanding. HEARTS WARM FOR SOLDIERS Sgt. First class Harold MacNish, the supply sergeant is absent from the detachment on detached service, having been delegated to travel to Detroit, Mich., at the government’s request. He will visit for a few days at his home in Ansonia, Conn., be fore his return to this station. CHANGE JOBS Pvt. Robert Nikrant erstwhile bugler, late of the sanitary depart ment has exchanged “positions” with one Pranklyn Batchelor, formerly of the sick and wounded office. “Batch" may now be seen most anytime de corating the landscape with a U. S. G wagon for a background. ULE-TIDE’S coming makes' me very much want to say or do something to add to the happiness and joy of the officers and men in Camp Greene. I know how they are yearning to be with the folks back home; and I know that no one else can satisfy that longing or bring to them any cheer like that which lights up and hallows the fireside at home' at Christmas time. But here in Charlotte, their, a.dopted home, are many warm hearts that love our soldier boys: and here, too, are many fire-sides alight with Christmas cheer, with a comfortable chair in the family circle waiting for them to share our seasonal gladness. May the heart of each of you be filled to the brim with happiness through out the holiday season, is the earnest wish of the folks of Charlotte. Very sincerely, F. R. McNinch, Mayor. 0 COURTEOUS SERVICE EXCELLENT FOOD THE SENSIBLE PLACE TO EAT” Telephone 336 17 S. TRYON ST. 0 0 97^ CLEANLINESS CENTRAL LOCATION And a Hearty Welcome for the Boys. ] 0
